Dublin Jerome High School
Take Responsibility, Always Growing, Better Together
February 3, 2023
A message from me...
Good Afternoon!
While the month of February is the shortest month of the year it is a month filled with opportunities four our school community learn, grow and take action.
This month we will be recognizing Black History Month. February was chosen as Black History month to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Over the course of the month, we will be sharing and celebrating the achievements of African Americans and their important contributions to our history. In addition, our Black Students United (BSU) have organized activities for students to participate and learn. We are also looking forward to a live cultural celebration event that will be held during lunch on Thursday, Feb. 16 that will focus on the celebration of Black Culture.
Also this month we will participate in "28 Days of Kindness" Campaign. February can be a difficult month for many and the opportunity to offer or receive an act of kindness can be impactful on us. I encourage you to do one random act each day. It will make your heart happy. If you want to learn more about why kindness matters I have shared some resources below.
You are all an important part of our Jerome community. Taking opportunities the time to learn, connect and celebrate with each other is so important to help us Always be Be Growing and be Better Together.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Better Together,
Mike

Weekly Schedule
28 Days of Kindness
February has always been a month that needs some special attention. It is a difficult month for many also believe February is a month of opportunity. To that end February will be "Choose Kindness Month" for Jerome. There will be a number of opportunties for students and staff to "Choose Kindness".
I am a big fan of Steve Hartman. He does a segment on CBS called "On the Road". I watch them often but try to limit sharing because it would be every week. The stories he shares always give me hope about people.
At the end of December, he had a 1-hour special called "The Gift: Kindness Goes Viral".
I would highly recommend taking the time to watch. I would also give him a follow on Twitter: @SteveHartmanCBS
Also this week The Today Show showcased a research study by The Ohio State University that was published in The Journal of Positive Psychology (full document). The overall conclusion demonstrated that performing acts of kindness promotes social connection. Instead of the study you can watch the 3 minute video here.
During the month of February I am asking our Jerome community to commit to 28 Days of Kindness, including our "You Are Loved Week" on Feb. 13-16 (National Random Acts of Kindness Week is Feb. 14-20). I will share more details in the coming weeks but I am encouraging our community to come together for each other!
Knot Your Average Teacher
Each Month our Jerome staff recognizes their peers for the work that they do each day. Congrats to Emma Morrison who was nominated by math teacher Kenny Schuster!

School Day SAT for ALL Jerome 11th Graders
Beginning in 2016 school districts in Ohio were required to select and administer a college entrance exam during the school day for the junior class at no charge to the student. The state’s decision to add this assessment opportunity aims to support students in meeting graduation requirements and planning for their futures. It is Ohio law that the District administers a college entrance exam free of charge.
Dublin City Schools will be giving 11th grade students the SAT this school year on Thursday, March 2, 2023. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school counselor or Mrs. Hampton.
More details will be shared in the coming weeks.
ASVAB TESTING-Career Exploration Program
The ASVAB, the most widely used multiple aptitude test, assesses a student's ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs. It includes an interest inventory and other activities and resources designed to help students explore the world of work and gain confidence in making career decisions.
We have the opportunity to conduct the ASVAB testing for all interested 10th, 11th and 12th graders at Jerome High School in late February, early March. ( Date TBD) Call Mrs. Vaccari in Guidance for more information and how to sign up at 614.718.8275.
Track and Field Interest Meeting
On Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:30pm, the Track Coaches and Booster Representatives will be hosting a parent and athlete information night regarding our 2023 outdoor season. This meeting will be in person and held in the CPA. More details will follow as we near the date.
Please note that all athletes and parents should plan to attend this meeting, unless there is a conflict with another school event. We will discuss important information and updates regarding this outdoor season. Please see Coach Beatty in C106 with any questions. We look forward to seeing you then!
Yearbook Story Competition
The Writing for Publications class will have a short story competition where the winner will publish their work in the yearbook. It will respond to the prompt ¨Beneath The Surface¨ which, depending on personal preference, can be taken figuratively or literally. The word limit is 750-1000 words, it can be any genre, and we will accept entries until March 1st.

CELTS, LEAVE YOUR MARK AT DUBLIN JEROME WITH A COMMEMORATIVE BRICK
With the new addition to Dublin Jerome High School, the commemorative brick patio is also getting some additions… your personalized Celtic Brick. The current brick patio was installed in 2014 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the DJHS as a gift from that year’s senior class. Who knew that less than 10 years later, we would need the current additions to accommodate the incredible growth in our schools? The original patio will be relocated to the front of the school near the new school addition in the summer of 2023. The relocation allows us to add additional bricks to complement the original memorial bricks.
This is your opportunity to purchase a beautiful, engraved brick paver to celebrate and memorialize students, alumni, school team, club, organization, or your favorite teacher in a meaningful and unique way that is forever set in stone.
Fill out the information below to purchase your Celt Brick and then don’t forget to come to see your commemorative brick during the grand opening of the school next fall.
4x8 bricks are $100 and can have up to 4 lines with up to 21 characters per line (Recommended: 3 lines, 18 characters). All proceeds go directly to the PTO to support all students and teachers at Dublin Jerome.
