Teacher Appreciation Week!

Thank you for making this past week so lovely for our teachers and staff! We feel so loved! Our students, families, and PTO are the absolute best!

SAC Application Deadline

The primary role of the SAC is to collaborate with and serve in an advisory role to the principal and pastor in policymaking to guide our school community in fulfilling our mission. We are looking for volunteers with a background in education, project management, facilities, and law background. To serve, you must be a practicing Catholic parishioner, 18 years or older. If you’re interested in serving The Catholic School of St. Eugene in this way, please send an email to sacchair@steugeneschool.org BY TODAY (May 7th) introducing yourself and highlighting strengths, experience/ expertise, and any aspects of the school you are passionate about.

Library Books Are Due/Used Book Sale

All loans are due back to the school library this coming week. Mrs. Hattaway will be starting inventory, and needs to account for all books. If you have fines or lost books, please go ahead and send cash to the school in an envelope with your child’s name and “library.” Outstanding fines/fees will result in a report card hold.

There are also used books available for sale to students and staff. Nothing priced more than $1!

Student Placement Input Form

At CSSE, our goal is to create balanced and successful communities of learners. Our classroom teachers and administration carefully work as a team to prepare class lists for the next school year. A well-balanced class allows the students and teachers to perform at their best. While most students can be successful in any classroom, parents wishing to provide additional input regarding their child may fill out the linked form and return it to the office by May 25, 2021 or email to principal@steugeneschool.org with subject “Placement Input.” Please note that specific teacher requests are not accepted.

PTO Changes

We will not be holding an annual meeting this year with Mrs. Goldsworthy’s recommendation. The 2020-21 PTO board approved the measure to continue in their current positions for the next school year. This rollover will help foster continuity and allow members to fulfill their roles in a non-COVID year. Some roles will be open due to members opting to step down, and roles for classroom/house parents will also be available to fill in the fall. Please see this letter from PTO president, Reem O’Donnell.

Safe Environment - NEW PROCESS - PLEASE REVIEW

The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City instituted a new Safe Environment background and training process in July of 2020. Since that time the information on how to complete the process was sent to all employees, volunteers with an active and registered email address, and new volunteers. If you have not received the information but would like to continue your volunteer status please email safeenvironment@steugenes.org and instructions will be emailed to you directly. All current volunteers have until June 1st to complete or will no longer be considered a volunteer in good standing. If you have any other questions about the process please send them to the same address.

Light of Leadership Mass

Kindergarten through 8th will attend mass together on May 27th. This is the Light of Leadership mass, where our 8th grade students pass on the “Light of Leadership” to next year’s 8th graders. This will be a closed mass, meaning only students, staff and signed up 7th/8th grade parents may attend. The sign up for 7th and 8th parents will go out to those parents only in the coming weeks.

Athletic Commission Positions

St. Eugene is seeking volunteers to fill the positions of Track Coordinator and Secretary. Track Coordinator is a 3-year position. Duties include working with the PE teacher to plan the school track meet and helping coordinate volunteers and practice for the CGSAA all school track meet. Secretary is a one-year position whose duties include taking notes and supplying minutes for the CSSE Athletic Commission meetings. Contact Dave Frame if you are interested in either position. dsaframe@gmail.com

In Case You Missed It - School News on Repeat

Parish Verification Form Clarification If you are trying to qualify for the Catholic parishioner rate, we have two different forms. One is for parishioners of St. Eugene and the other is for active parishioners of all other local Catholic parishes. Please see Mrs. Goldsworthy’s email that was sent out last week for more information.

Parents/guardians may now sign up to attend school masses in limited numbers. Because our school mass is closed to non-school related guests at this time, you MUST sign up on the sign up link by 5pm the day BEFORE the mass you want to attend. We will have someone checking off names and taking temperatures in the narthex before mass.

Refer Your Friends! We are currently accepting new student applications for the coming school year. We love it when our current school families help us bring new students to The Catholic School of St. Eugene! To show our appreciation, we created a referral program. Check it out at this link!

Parish News

Looking for Families for the Vocare Chalice! Our church is blessed to have the Vocare Chalice Ministry, through which we pray for those called to serve the church through Vocations. Simply sign up with vocare@steugenes.org, let them know the mass you attend most often, and your family will be put on the rotation to take the Vocare Chalice home for a week at the end of your usual mass. The chalice comes with a prayer book to help guide your family. It’s a simple way to enhance your family’s spiritual life AND increase the number of men and women called to Holy Orders!

Mass is still celebrated daily at St. Eugene, and with the exception of school mass, masses are open for all to come and participate while following COVID precautions. The Archbishop has offered new guidelines this month. The Sunday mass obligation has been restored as of April 24th. The new guidelines can be found at http://archokc.org/returntomass.

Saturday Morning Men's Mass - This Saturday, May 8, 2021, we will continue our Saturday Morning Mass and gathering for the men of the parish. Mass begins at 7:00am in the church, followed by our gathering immediately afterwards in the parish meeting rooms. (Zoom participation will be available). Please invite others to join us for Mass and another great discussion, a light breakfast and cup of coffee this Saturday beginning at 7:00 am in the church.

COVID-19 Response and Procedures

  • My Child is Ill. What Do I Do? Allergies or COVID? Stomach bug or COVID? It can be hard to decipher what ailment might be affecting your child. We have created some graphics and flowcharts to help you navigate what steps to take when your child or someone in your household is feeling unwell. Please report concerns or questions about illness to Mrs. Goldsworthy at principal@steugeneschool.org, and she will consult with our response team - Mrs. O'Connell and Mrs. Rischard. ALWAYS fill out and submit the Absentee Form (or call Ms. Patrick in the office), then notify your child’s homeroom/house teacher each day of absence.

  • Absences Please use the Absentee Form to report absences AND email your child’s teacher/house homeroom. It is important to communicate why your child is missing school with the teacher and document through the Google form. Please be meticulous in following directions if a child, household member, or close contact has recently tested positive for COVID or is awaiting results of a COVID test. NO ONE IN THE HOUSEHOLD MAY ENTER THE SCHOOL BUILDING if COVID exposure is positive OR in question. Mrs. Goldsworthy MUST clear your household for return to school in all cases where the possibility of COVID is involved. Please send illness updates to Mrs. Goldsworthy.

  • Screening Questions and Carpool Please remember to have your questions answered DAILY and results ready to show on your phone. Students should be masked, on the passenger side for temp checks, and ready to go as soon as carpool teacher opens the door. bit.ly/FamilyDailyQs

  • Spirit Tee Tuesday is EVERY Tuesday! - Students may wear their regular uniform or a St. Eugene spirit tee with jeans or uniform bottoms. Don't forget ALL students dismiss at 2pm EVERY Tuesday!
