Tejeda News
Week of August 31st
Dear Tejeda Timberwolves,
Thank you to everyone for a successful second week of instruction. Our faculty and staff have had amazing virtual interactions with our T-Wolves and appreciate your support at home for synchronous instruction. I am grateful for the overwhelming majority of students who have been successful in participating in virtual instruction. I request your support to continue this trend by praising your student for respectful interactions with peers and teachers. Our Assistant Principals are visiting virtual classrooms to discuss behavioral expectations. We have included the presentation for you in the information below to continue to work collaboratively as a team.
We have filtered through the July and August surveys to determine the parent requests for returning a student to school for in-person instruction. On Friday, August 28, 2020, we sent an email to the parents requesting to return this instructional setting. This email is to confirm a request for in-person instruction before we conduct a lottery to select the students who will return. Priority will be given to students identified by an educational program, parents with childcare issues and other extenuating circumstances. Phase 1 will look different than the traditional day as students selected to return to in-person instruction will remain in the same advisory room for all classes from 8:30 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. In the advisory room, students will work independently on synchronous instruction. Parents will need to send a student to school with a face covering, laptop and headphones. There will be no more than five (5) students assigned to each advisory classroom. The advisory teacher in each classroom will provide supervision while conducting their content synchronous instruction. The advisory teacher may change as the phases change in the return to in-person instruction. Phase 2 of in-person instruction will be similar but with 10 students in the classroom. We always strive to do our best and want to make the return to in-person instruction as safe as it can be for all students, faculty and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your student’s counselor or administrator.
I thank you for your support of our T-Wolves and send you my wishes for an abundance of health upon your homes.
Save The Date for Greenback/Meet the Teacher Night:
NEISD has a tradition of hosting Greenback/Meet the Teacher Night at the beginning of the school year. In the spirit of upholding the tradition and maintaining safety for everyone, all NEISD middle school campuses will host a virtual version of Greenback/Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:35 p.m. Please read next week’s smore for more details!
The Tejeda Way Video:
As part of our initiative to encourage positive behaviors among all T-Wolves, the Assistant Principals have created a video on “The Tejeda Way”. This video reviews resources and tools that students can use along with information on the Virtual Tech Help and Virtual behavioral expectations. At Tejeda, we know our current educational experience is unprecedented and we want to support all students. We will provide monthly information videos to let the students know they control their learning environment, and can develop great traits of character such as responsibility, respect, courage, and knowledge. The Assistant Principals visited every synchronous learner via Social Studies classes on Friday, which was our Blue Day. They will again repeat the visits to every synchronous learner via Social Studies classes on Monday, which will be our Silver Day. We invite parents to watch the video presentation to see what expectations are being communicated to students. The link is below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt8JqrBAD_o&feature=youtu.be
Tejeda Bitmoji Virtual Office:
Tejeda Parents we hope you have enjoyed the Bitmoji Virtual Office and have used it for your needs for the first few weeks of school. We will continue to update it with information to make it an easy reference to use for school questions. A recent update was the addition of a new Teacher Directory to find your child’s teacher's email to receive support. You can find this with the Help Desk icon or the Teachers icon in the bitmoji virtual office. In addition, our Virtual Help Desk was such a great help to students and parents that we wanted to make sure we still provide you with troubleshooting tips. The Help Desk icon now has Help Desk information with the NEISD Help Desk phone number, tips, and the teacher directory to house all of your needs. We have also updated the bell schedule to include the asynchronous time frame and supports your child can access during this time. In case you did not save the link to your desktop, here is the link:
Virtual Learning Tardies:
Starting Tuesday, September 1st, teachers will be implementing a Tejeda Tardy Policy. Students will have a window of 6 Minutes to log in to their Zoom for Synchronous learning. After that window closes the student will become an Asynchronous Learner for that class period. This means the student will need to log into Launchpad to access their Google Classroom, watch the uploaded instructional video, and complete as well as submit the assignment on the date class was missed. By doing this, the student’s absence will be recorded and corrected for the day. If the student bypasses Launchpad and goes straight to Google Classroom the NEISD Information Technology Department will not be able to track the students’ login and record the attendance. It is imperative the students use Launchpad accessed through the NEISD website to record their attendance during Asynchronous Learning. https://launchpad.classlink.com/neisd
