Dear Colleague,
Dr. BOB HOWE...A CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONAL
I ask Dr. Howe a while back to send a short video expressing his thoughts on the principalship. As he approaches his 90th birthday in November, his love of the principalship is as strong now as ever before. I hope you can carve out three minutes and listen to words of wisdom from Mr. MoASSP. He coined the phrase, "Consummate Professional" many years ago. I think I speak for all of us when I say that Dr. Bob Howe is the ultimate Consummate Professional. If you would like to connect with Dr. Howe, his email address is rhowe01@sbcglobal.net.
SENATE BILL 570 NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION
We sent out a call to action yesterday afternoon. The process of sending your state senator an email asking them to oppose this harmful bill to public education doesn't get any easier. Click on the link above.
THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX
Like you, MoASSP has been sharpening our ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness skills as we reprogram our Association. Future in-person events like the New Principals Conference and Advanced Placement Summit in June could be transitioning to virtual events. We are still hopeful we can offer some kind of event for our Missouri Scholars 100 Class of 2020. Stay tuned for more information.
ZOOM MEETINGS
In the last seven weeks, MoASSP has facilitated 30 regional and statewide meetings. Program Director Doug Mirts hasn't missed a one. I appreciate Doug and his efforts in connecting with principals in this way. We are going to have a reprieve this next week on a statewide Zoom meeting. We are working on a possible budget presentation. Stay tuned.

Missouri Pediatricians Encourage Well-Care During Crisis
The Missouri Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (MOAAP) encourages parents to call their local clinic to check on immunizations and schedule well child visits. Pediatricians are here to help ensure every child is healthy and ready to return to school when the time comes. With the presence of COVID-19 cases in the state, pediatric and family medical offices have implemented protocols to ensure children and families stay safe while receiving routine well care.
With the anticipated return of school in the fall it is never too early to check immunization records. Immunizations are needed across the lifespan, including before kindergarten and continue throughout middle and high school. Ensuring every child is up to date with immunizations assists in reducing the risk of an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease.
Doctors across the state are stepping up precautions to ensure patient safety. For example, offices are bringing patients directly from their cars to a room, utilizing separate entrances, completely separating office space between sick and well children, or holding well visits first and then sick visits later in the afternoon with additional cleaning procedures in between visits. These extra steps are being taken to prioritize patient safety and health. Clinics are adapting their office visit procedures in real-time based on up to date guidance.
Pediatricians encourage families to continue using caution as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The best way to decrease the spread of the virus is to stay home and continue physically distancing. It remains important to practice good hygiene with washing your hands. Additionally, MOAAP recommends a face mask for children over the age of 2 if a child must go out in public. Face masks are not recommended for infants and small children under the age of 2.
MOAAP wants families to be healthy during and after this crisis. Pediatricians want to hear from parents and assist with any health concerns. Parents are encouraged to contact their pediatrician to discuss their child’s needs, schedule well child visits and check immunization records.
