Dear Everitt Families,
Well gosh... What a whirlwind of a week it's been since I updated you last Friday. I appreciate your flexibility and understanding as our district leaders respond to rapidly changing information, and I appreciate your patience with our team as we respond to these new directives. We spent most of our week preparing a safe way to implement Jeffco Restart Model. 1.0, and now, in this new iteration, we're focused on beginning the year in a remote environment from August 24- September 4 and transitioning to hybrid learning-- with students spending some time learning in the building and some time learning remotely-- beginning on Tuesday, September 8.
In the "Restart Jeffco" section of the newsletter below, I will outline as much as I know right now about both Everitt's remote learning model and Everitt's hybrid learning model. There is additional guidance we are waiting on from the district that will support us in building schedules and procedures; furthermore, as our runway has been made a little longer, we are afforded some time to collaborate with our teacher leadership team to ensure that they feel confident that our plans are best for our kids and effective for them.
The district has given schools the deadline of July 31 to have our plans shared with you. We will meet that deadline. And, to reiterate the title of the video above, we've got this. This staff loves your kids, and we will make sure to that no matter what this school year brings, we will take care of them both as learners and as people.
I am so grateful to get to be a part of this extraordinary community, and I thank you for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.

Information about Jeffco's Restart Plan: What will it look like at Everitt?
On July 23, Jeffco Public Schools sent an updated restart plan to our community. You may view those details here: https://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/restart_jeffco.
Q: What will remote learning look like at Everitt for the first two weeks of school?
A: Remote learning will be different than it was last spring, in response to feedback from families, students and staff.
- On August 24, all students will participate in a Remote Learning orientation, where we will welcome them to the school year, outline our expectations for remote learning, connect them to resources, and, most importantly, begin to build our Everitt community.
- Students will begin the day checking in via Zoom or Google Meet with their Crew teacher, who will help them organize their day and connect with one another.
- Students will follow a remote learning block "bell schedule," with 4 of their classes one day and three of their classes another.
- Students will receive true, remote instruction from each of their teachers and have the opportunity to connect with their peers in real time.
- Students will have some work and assignments to finish on their own, just as they would have work time in the classroom and homework at home.
- During the week of August 31, we will welcome students in cohorts for in-person orientation. During this orientation, they will build community and relationships, learn about their hybrid learning schedules and procedures to keep each other safe.
- We are waiting to hear from Jeffco if we will continue to have one day per week for teacher planning. When we hear that decision, we will share a more detailed remote learning schedule with you.
Q: What will hybrid learning will look like at Everitt?
A: Students will learn on an alternating schedule, with half of their days learning here at Everitt and half of their days learning remotely at home.
- When students are in the building, they will wear masks when they're inside, except when they're eating.
- Hand washing and sanitizing will be scheduled throughout the day.
- Students will be screened each morning for COVID symptoms. Students exhibiting symptoms will be asked to stay home.
- Students will be in no more than 4 different classes each day.
- As there are fewer students in the building, it will be far more feasible for us to ensure social distancing in each classroom.
- School classrooms and common areas will be cleaned and sanitized regularly.
- As we get further clarity from the district regarding their expectations for hybrid learning, I will collaborate with our teacher leaders to create a more detailed hybrid schedule. These details will be shared with you next Friday, July 31.
As promised, there will be three opportunities to meet with me on ZOOM next week to ask questions, express your concerns, or share your ideas.
