This week in 3rd grade...
- LA- This week our genre was realistic fiction. While reading the story as a whole group we discussed the author's purpose, predicted what would happen next and talked about how hard work can get you far! We also discussed our question of the week...what do we need to know about spending and saving? We read short passages in small groups, and we also read our own leveled readers. On Seesaw we wrote about the author's purpose and the problem and solution. Finally, we read a picture book then used Pages to write about the author's purpose. Next week we will take our unit test.
- Writing Workshop-We began our realistic fiction pieces this week. We have some very interesting ideas and our rough drafts are coming together nicely! We will finish these next week.
- Math- This week we learned about the distributive property of multiplication. We also learned about how to break apart factors of 3-7 using the distributive property (a very tricky strategy) Next week we will take our fact fluency assessment on factors of 3's! If you have time please quiz your child over the weekend.
- Studies Weekly- We started our unit on maps. Students learned about different types of maps. We discussed that a lot of maps have a title, map key, symbols, and a compass rose. We read about how their were different ways to navigate even before a compass. We also reviewed the cardinal and intermediate directions on a compass. Next week we will use AR MAKR to make our augmented reality maps.
- Cardboard Box- The students had a blast creating their cardboard box projects! It was amazing to watch all three grades work together and then present to the school. Thank you to those who could make it. If you could not make it KeyNote presentations will be going home.
We made weekly video goals!! Ask us if we met them!
We created Clips about the Properties of Multiplication
Properties of Multiplication 1
Properties of Multiplication 2
Studies Weekly-We did various mapping activities focusing on parts on a map and what a map is made for
Map Races
We read pictures books and wrote about the author's purpose
Victoria and Hamilton also served as leaders by helping with carline while 5th grade was on their trip
