Colt Round Up
September 9, 2018
"If you can't change your fate, change your attitude." - Amy Tan
With Appreciation:
- Tricia, we are SO glad you are back!
- Kudos to our cafeteria team - they are working hard to ensure our kids get through the lunch line quickly!
- Thanks to all the staff who have found unique and wonderful ways to support the Philipps children in light of their recent loss - we have such a loving community at LCES.
FYI - we are still waiting on laminator parts...thanks for your patience!
Intervention Support Update!
- Our ISP position just posted late last week; we'll interview ISP candidates later in the week.
- My hope is that we'll get ISP back up and running early next week.
- Our to-be-hired ISP will provide support in grades K-5 and we expect Karla will provide additional intervention in the afternoons with an emphasis on the primary grades and more intensive intervention.
- We are also looking to get math tutoring going after school in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned!
Lunch with Great Colts - going on week three!

Schedules - Math, ELA, UA & PE
As your schedules are finalizing, please take a minute to note when you provide math, ELA, PE, and UA instruction to your classes. I know this isn't set in stone, but it helps us to have a sense for when we plan our classroom visits. Click here to access the form. Thank you!

Growth = Progress ... Food for Thought
Here's some of the things we are doing to support mental health at LCES:
- Developing classroom communities steeped in personal leadership, strong relationships, and a sense of care for self and others. Here are some fun ways to build classroom community throughout the year. Here is an article with some helpful resources built in, and this is an article from NPR that explores the hidden epidemic of mental health crises in schools. Here are 12 tools collected by ACSD to support students with various needs.
- We are starting our Wellness Together support this week. Mrs. Jessica Butler is the family therapist who is leading the support. She'll be working out of Desi's office on T and W. We've recommended 10 students for individual support and family support for about 13 weeks. As that series wraps up, we'll recommend more students. We may recommend fewer individuals, but also create a couple of small group who will benefit from support on a common theme. We are using PBIS data as well as discussions with families and teachers to inform our decisions about who we are referring.
- Lighthouse just wrapped up their first week of the Pro Social Skills training with a small group of seven upper grade students. Lighthouse is meeting with students in the Tech room on W and F afternoons. Those services will wrap up in early November.
- Our PBIS, Tier I team met this week and we have some exciting plans to share with you at our next staff meeting! Help us by documenting behavior concerns, and providing lots of positive reinforcement!
- Desi continues to provide services to students who have relevent IEP goals. She's also pushing into several classes this fall to provide Mindfulness training. Stay tuned for a possible early morning staff activity to support the adults on campus!
- Remember that the district offers EAP services at no cost to you and your family; a flier went into your box last week!
- In the staff room, there is a white binder with resources about being a Trauma Informed educator; these have been compiled by Desi St. John.
