Student Council
Student Council will begin in October. Each homeroom will need a boy and a girl to represent their class. Students who are interested should fill out an application and turn it in to their grade level adviser: Miss Kay 5th. Students that showed interest in class, received an application. Applications are due Friday, September 30th.
Thank you so much for supporting student council, please direct any additional questions to Miss Kay: kayjam@pewaukeeschools.org
Abel Gonzalez
Great Job!!! We sent Mr. Gonzalez orders for over 100 t-shirts, which means our school contributed over $2,000 to his organization. Thank you everyone for your contribution. Below you will find a video Mr. Gonzalez wanted to share. He is very excited to talk with our students and said he may even demonstrate running up the warped wall for us!
Horizon Band
Here is a link to the before school band calendar with a few minor corrections. Due to the size of the band groups, all before school band sessions will be held at the high school. Students who arrive early will wait in the high school band room. Early supervision for Horizon band students starts at 7:15. Band sessions start at 7:45.
During Encore classes, Ms. Cooper will take a short tour of PHS with all of the band students. We’re excited for this upgrade to our band program, and we want to make sure all of our students are ready for the extra time with band instructors.
Reading and Writing
In writing, we began our Narrative Unit and generated many strategies that good writers use to achieve success. Next week, we will be taking our first district writing assessment (DWA). This assessment is used as a tool for teaching writing concepts and helps guide me in my instruction.
Reminder: Students will be going to the library every "Day 2" so bring those books in!
Math
Student spent time this week comparing fractions and converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Please take a look at the video below to see a few of our students' work samples. In addition, we took our first math quiz. You will find this quiz and other materials in their Math Take Home Folder.
If your child is struggling with math homework, please have them take a moment to look at our math videos on our webpage. Mrs. Kingsley and I worked on recording videos that students can use as a resource, as they navigate through fractions this unit.
Next week, we will begin to add/subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators as well as add/subtract mixed numbers.
