Academy of the Arts at Bransom
February 28, 2017
A Note from the Principal
I hope this finds you doing well and ready to round out the month of February. It is hard to believe that there are only about 3 months left in the school year. Time flies! It is even harder to believe what we will accomplish in the next 3 months.
As we look into the next couple of days, there are several opportunities to get involved and show your child(ren) that being involved in school is important to the whole family. I've said this many times before and I really believe it. Your presence at school and involvement in your child's academic development speaks volumes to the school and to your child(ren.) Later in this newsletter, you will find a list of events on the horizon but I want you to be aware of things coming up soon you do not want to miss.
- Tonight (Tuesday) is PTO's Spirit Night at the Burleson Spring Creek, 5:00-9:00PM.
- Friday is PTO's free Movie Night in the Academy of the Arts at Bransom gym - TROLLS, 6:30pm.
- The "Relay for Life Hot Dog Supper" will begin at 5:00PM on March 9 prior to Open House. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
- Next Thursday (March 9) is Open House for all families to visit classrooms to see the wonderful things our students are working on at school, 5:30-7:00PM.
- Next Thursday (March 9) is the Fine Arts Night hosted by Mrs. Dietz in the gym at 5:30PM.
- Spring Break begins March 13 and lasts through March 17.
I appreciate all of your efforts to participate in any or all of the events. Busy, busy, busy!
Best regards,
Mrs. Burchfield

A Note from the Assistant Principal
Research from Abraham Maslow shows that humans have a hierarchy of needs. When the lower level needs are met, the upper level needs can be achieved (see diagram). When we translate this research into school terms, we learn that unless a student's basic needs are met, learning is most likely not able to occur.
Teachers are facing challenges each day to meet some students' basic needs. We have students who come to us hungry, tired, and without proper care. We must meet these needs first before academic content is ever going to "click".
Parents are the first and most important teachers in a child's life. Teach them they are loved unconditionally. Teach them that it is ok to take risks and make mistakes. Teach them about the power of friendships. Teach them to be kind. Teach them so that we can teach them!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Howell
