Week 3 Term 3 SFDS Newsletter
St Francis de Sales - Wednesday 10 August 2022
MESSAGE FROM MARY-ANGELA
Ngā mihi kia katoa
In a Catholic school, teaching is much more a vocation than a profession. We draw on our own spirituality to play a key role in our young people’s spiritual journey. In Matthew’s Gospel Jesus said, “Follow me.” to Simon and Andrew - we continue to take up that call.
Last week the new Religious Education Curriculum for Catholic Schools in Aotearoa NZ was introduced to key leaders in Catholic schools by Te Kupenga - National Centre for Religious Study. The new RE Curriculum recognises that our learners come from different types of whānau, from different cultural contexts, are at different stages of development and their spirituality is diverse.
In the new RE Curriculum, there are four ‘Te Rama Whakapono Themes’ providing theological, scriptural, historical and pastoral context:
Te Atua - God
Te Rongopai - Good News
Ā Tātou Whakapapa - Our Story
Kia Noho Hāhi - Being Church
There are five ‘Te Rama Aroha Cross Themes’ woven through. These cross themes will help us to integrate and develop concepts across the whole curriculum - through Years 1 to 8:
ManaTapu - Grace
Aroha Pūmau - Holiness
Whakaaronui - Wisdom
Tika - Justice
Īnoi - Prayer
Over the next few years, our teachers will be introduced to various resources and strategies to support teachers to implement this Curriculum in ways that are appropriate for our ākonga. In the meantime, we will be working as a team to implement as much as we can into our St Francis de Sales learning programme. The RE Curriculum will become an integral part of our SFDS curriculum. We look forward to working with you to make this happen.
Take care and God bless

A huge congratulations to wonderful Josel J who is this week's recipient of our ‘Principal ‘s Cup’!
Josel has impressed lots of our staff when trying out new things recently. He has shown perseverance when trying out skating, swimming and skipping. We love his positive attitude and how he keeps on smiling even when the new skill he is learning is tricky. What a go-getter!

Does your wardrobe need a clean out?
We need your help
For Conservation Week this year, Nga Manu is holding a ''pre-loved clothing and more sale'' as a Wildlife Fundraiser. Renew your wardrobe for Spring and support our wildlife at the same time.
We are looking for good quality items that we can proudly sell at our fundraiser. This is an opportunity to sort out the clothing you're tired of and give them a new life with someone else, rather than discard them.
Retro, vintage and designer clothing and accessories are especially welcome.
Please do not send us your worn, damaged, or soiled clothes. It takes time to sort through them and costs us to dump unsuitable clothing.
Please donate these items:
- Adult and children's sized clothing welcome
- Accessories including belts, hats, scarves, sunglasses, jewellery and shoes.
- Clothing and accessories must be in good condition and not need repairs.
- No undergarments or bathers please.
- Business attire.
- Outdoor clothing and footwear.
Books of the natural world, flora and fauna are encouraged.
Donate your quality items, to the Visitor Centre no later than Sunday 28th August.
As a non-profit charitable trust, 100% of the proceeds contributes directly to Ngā Manu's wildlife and conservation programmes.
We are also looking for volunteers to help sort the clothing during the week as well as help sell on Saturday and Sunday. Shifts during the week are flexible between 9-5pm. On the weekend, volunteers would work four-hour shifts.
Please contact Sonja at volunteercoordinator@ngamanu.org.nz if you can help.
