First Quarter 2022-2023
Administrative Corner
It has been a fabulous first quarter here at Boger. Our students are well into the swing of things for the year. Each day we are engaged in learning opportunities to become the very best scholars that we can. As we enter the second quarter, we are grateful for the time that we are able to spend working with your children to help them reach their full potential! Thank you for ensuring that your students are attending school when they are healthy, arriving on time, and participating in classroom activities. Together we can partner to ensure that all students are learning and growing.
Thank you to our everyone that participated in our Raise Craze fundraiser for PTO. We have raised over $15,000 and completed many acts of kindness. This fundraiser is ending soon, so be sure to get those pledges in to help support our PTO as they work to provide funding for many things here at Boger.
Thank you for the ongoing support for our school! We appreciate you!

IMPORTANT Child Nutrition Updates
Free breakfast and lunch ended over the Summer. Currently, we have many students that have charges on their account in the cafeteria. These accounts must be paid by families. You can send in money with your student or use the link below to access the K-12 payment center to add money to your child's account. Thank you for getting these negative balances taken care of today!
Attendance Reminder
If you are planning an upcoming trip that may be considered an educational opportunity experience for your child, it may be eligible for approval as an excused absence. Please complete the form below and submit to the principal prior to the absence in order for it to be considered. No student will be excused for more than 5 school days per year.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Thank you for your punctuality when arriving at school for morning drop off and afternoon pick up of your students. We appreciate your efforts to ensure that arrival and dismissal goes smoothly each day. For morning arrival, please continue to pull up to the furthest drop off and have your students exit ready. Students need to open their own door if there is not an adult at the spot to open the door for them. If you are pulling in to the parking lot after 8:15, your student is LATE. Please park and walk them inside after 8:15. We need your help with this so that our adults can get inside the building and start teaching! We have quite a few folks pulling in and joining the line well after 8:15.
For dismissal, please be sure to have your car rider tag in your window. Parents need to leave the tag in the window until the children are placed in the car. This helps ensure that the correct children are placed in the car. Safety of our students is our number 1 priority!
Check Outs- Students may not be checked out after 2:15 pm. If you need to check your student out for an afternoon appointment, please do so before that time.
Transportation Changes- If you need to change your child's afternoon transportation, this must be done in writing. Teachers are busy teaching throughout the day and may not see a message. For this reason, please email the teacher and copy an administrator on the email so that we can double check with the teacher to ensure that the student is being sent home the correct way. Thank you for your help with this!

November- A Month of Gratitude and Thankfulness
Please take a brief moment to express your gratitude to our amazing staff by completing the google form below. Your words of appreciation make a great impact on our culture and climate.
We will share the responses with our staff on Tuesday, November 22 before Thanksgiving Break.
Students will be learning about nonfiction text features, the framework that established the United States, and Thanksgiving. We will focus on using nonfiction text features to identify key pieces of information in texts. Finding information from pictures and print helps us to demonstrate an understanding of the characters, settings, and plot.
In math, we will be working on using arrays to write equations and solve problems. We will learn about telling time to 5 minutes and skip counting through various number sequences. It will be important to continue to review subtraction and addition facts.
We’ve enjoyed the first nine weeks of school! We are building relationships in our classrooms by practicing our Positivity Project character strengths. In reading, we focused on strategies of how to best read nonfiction and fiction texts. One vital strategy students have learned and should be using independently is highlighting and rereading text to support their answer.
In math, we focused on a variety of strategies for multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. All students would benefit from nightly review of basic math facts. In science we learned about Earth’s landforms and the solar system.
As we continue to shine brighter in third grade, we will begin our next reading unit on characters and culture. In math, the next unit focuses on multiplication and division word problems. We look forward to seeing how much the students continue to grow!
It’s been a fun and exciting start to the school year. Students are enjoying being back at school and they are growing by leaps and bounds!
We accomplished a lot in the first quarter.
Reading was spent focusing on reading skills through fiction texts, such as The Tiger Rising, Junkyard Wonders, and The Crow’s Call to name a few. Students delved deep into the text and focused on visualizing while reading and going back into the story to support their reasoning/answers.
In writing we focused on creating personal narratives, writing mechanics, grammar, and spelling.
Science focused on phases of the moon and earth’s history and how the Earth is shaped by different forces.
Math was spent reviewing multiplication facts and using that information to support students as they learned to make multiplicative comparisons, area and perimeter, and using place value to compare numbers.
Going into the second quarter students will be submerged into North Carolina’s history through various historical fiction and nonfiction texts. Writing will focus on research about a historical topic and poetry. Science will delve into the formation of rocks and learning how to classify them based on their different properties. Math will continue growing student’s understanding of place value as we go further with addition and subtraction, as well as two-step word problems. We will also begin multi-digit multiplication and division this quarter.
How to help your child at home?
Practice multiplication and division facts with your child. Being fluent in these skills will help them as we progress throughout the year.
When it comes to reading, ask your child about their current book. What’s their favorite part? What do they think about the main character? Why did they pick this book? Follow up with asking your child to show you where in the book their favorite part is, or what was interesting about what they read. Having students go back into the text to support their thinking is a huge skill in fourth grade.
We’re looking forward to another fabulous quarter in fourth grade, making sure our students shine bright!
