Bristow Run ES Panther Press
September 2022
Dear Panther Families,
We wanted to thank the students, staff members, and families for such a wonderful start to the school year. We have loved meeting our new families and reconnecting with our returning families at Open House and throughout these first few weeks of school. Our mission at Bristow Run is to engage and empower every child and to have them feel a part of the Panther Family. Additionally, we strive to challenge each student to grow academically, behaviorally, and socially. We look forward to working hand in hand with all parents to ensure the very best for our students.
We encourage you to join us for our Back-to-School Nights scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11 for grades K-2 and Thursday, Oct. 13 for grades 3-5. On both nights we will start promptly at 6:00 and end at 7:00. Back to School Nights are informational sessions for parents and students should not attend as the teacher will be presenting information for parents.
Throughout the school year, please check our school website for important updates. The calendar is always updated, and the Encore schedule is posted weekly. Our monthly newsletters will be posted as they’re available. We also encourage you to check out our school’s Facebook page by liking the Bristow Run Elementary School page and our Twitter page by following us @BristowRunES. Here you will find the most up-to-date information and announcements.
Once again, we are honored to serve our Bristow Run families. It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Please read our September newsletter for important information and a few pictures from our first few weeks at school.
Your Partner in Education,
Mrs. Jeck

Technology Insurance
Prince William County Schools (PWCS) is a 1:1 device school system. Students received their laptops during the first week of school. Parents/guardians have the option to purchase low-cost student device insurance through the PWCS-approved third-party vendor, Securranty. If purchased, the insurance covers unlimited repairs or replacements for everything from broken screens, lost chargers, and accidental damage, with a zero deductible for one year on a school-issued HP device. The insurance cost is $32.95, which may be significantly less than repair or replacement costs without insurance.
ParentVUE Account
ParentVUE is a tool that gives parents and guardians access to their child’s bus information, class schedules, grades, attendance information, SOL scores, and more. You can access ParentVUE from your web browser or by downloading the app. For directions about how to activate an account, please visit PWCS ParentVUE Information webpage.
If you need assistance with your login information, please contact Susie Pierce piercesc@pwcs.edu or 703-753-7741.
Cafeteria Update
Please be advised that Bristow Run will not continue to offer free meals for the 2022-23 school year. Breakfast for students will cost $1.50, and lunch will cost $2.50. If a student wants to buy a second full lunch, it cost $4.00. There are no ala carte items this year, except for milk.
Funding student meal accounts can be done in several ways. Read about how to add funds to a student's meal account. Applications for free and reduced meals are available using the following link; Meal Information.
Attendance
It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to see that their child attends school regularly and on time every day. Students who miss school miss the interaction between the teacher and the students in the classroom. When students miss school, it has a direct impact on their learning and overall academic success. Making up missed work does not take the place of actual class attendance.
PWC attendance regulation states the following regarding family vacations/trips planned during the school year - Preapproved absences are discouraged and will only be granted in extraordinary circumstances. Family trips should be scheduled during school holidays and over summer break. Principals will limit the total number of approved absences related to trips/vacations.
If your child is absent, please call the school at 703.753.7741. This is for your child’s safety. If you do not call the school, it will be necessary for the school office to contact you. Parents should send in a note upon the student’s return explaining the absence.
We look forward to partnering with you this year to help your child be successful!
Changes in Dismissal
For any changes in dismissal, please email the teacher, Stacey Ivancic ivancisa@pwcs.edu and Susie Pierce piercesc@pwcs.edu in the office. Please send all dismissal changes before 3:00.
Watch D.O.G.S. Dad's of Great Students!
WATCH D.O.G.S is back in 2022-23!
Are you interested in being a Watch D.O.G this year? Curious about what the program does? The program encourages fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one full day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Fathers and father figures sign up to volunteer through a ‘Launch Event’ coming soon! WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students as needed.
What are the goals of a WATCH D.O.G.S. program?
1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Garden Update
The Bristow Run garden has undergone a significant transformation since our last workday in May. The once tiny plants are now big and were in full bloom this summer. A large variety of bugs and butterflies were spotted among the flowers. This year, expect to see some changes to the garden, including a large mural. Thank you to everyone who helped plant and maintain our garden. Stay tuned for future garden workdays!
