Cambrian School District, March 23, 2021
Dear Cambrian Families and Staff,
Yesterday, we were pleased to welcome our 7th and 8th graders back to in-person learning at Steindorf STEAM K-8 School and Ida Price Middle School. Our staff was elevated by the presence of our students and excited to welcome them back to campus. The feeling of joy and happiness is certainly palatable across all of the Cambrian Schools. It is a time to celebrate once again being together, in person, while continuing to follow all health and safety protocols. In addition, the COVID-19 adjusted case rate continues to decline in Santa Clara County, which is wonderful news, but we must still work altogether to continue to adhere to the health and safety protocols diligently.
This past year has certainly presented itself with many challenges and we have been able to get through these difficult times together. Over the course of the last 12 months, approximately one-half million Americans died from COVID-19. In addition, we continue to reel in the wake of eight deaths in Georgia—six of the victims of Asian descent—and to contend with events that shock the collective conscience.
The past few weeks there have been targeted situations against Asians and Asian Americans locally in the Bay Area and across our nation. An attack on any group of us is an attack on all of us—and on everything we represent as a district. Each day brings new reports of Asian Americans being targeted because of their race in a way that devastates the Asian American community and undermines our values of a caring, community enriched in diversity. We welcome and embrace individuals from every background because it makes us a better community, a stronger community.
Each of us can offer comfort and support to members of our community who are feeling targeted and vulnerable. In the Cambrian School District and our community, we commit to upholding equality, justice and human dignity.
We always work together to prepare children for success in life as such, it is important to have discussions that are age appropriate with your children. For more information please visit the following resources:

I long for the day when I no longer have to send such messages to our community. To Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders in our community: We stand together with you today and every day going forward. If any of our students feel anxious or traumatized, we encourage families to reach out to the school site offices as we do have school site counselors available. It is important that our students feel safe and accepted to express their feelings readily. Thank you for being a part of our Cambrian community. We are Cambrian.
