Students collect and use evidence from the text, passages or quotes. With the collected quotes students write them to create a stick figure character. Students then share the quotes and explain why they are relevant. This strategies fosters a greater understanding of the character. Creates empathy for characters in the novel.
Directions
Steps:
Assign reading passage.
As they read the passage, they journal their important quotes. You can journal all quotes or have a focus for certain quotes.
Sort the quotes based on your assigned factors: characteristics, influences, any factors can be used.
Use the quotes to create a stick figure representation of their character from the novel.
Students can share their chosen quotes and reasons why they chose the quotes.
When to use:
Students can use this strategy in Language Arts, Science, Social Studies.
