Head U Gator News
October 28, 2016
HUGE THANK YOU!
There were a LOT of volunteers, but a few folks organized the whole thing and made it work so well: Kristen Bedell, Denyse Medlenka, Natalie Kuehler, Wendy Stewart, Christina Kelley, Happy Bell, and Adriana Lopez-Hammer.
Initial reports indicate that this was one of the most successful Festivals and auctions in our history! Thanks to everyone who volunteered time and resources to make it happen.
World Friendship Day
Parents who agree to share will have a table in the gym where they can display items that represent your culture or country of origin. Students rotate through the tables during a designated time and you talk with them and answer questions. Students love this day and it's a great opportunity to increase our awareness of the global connectedness we share in our country.
If you would like to share on World Friendship Day, please send an email to Mrs. May, our art teacher who will be coordinating the event at julia.may@gcisd.net

Yearbook news
Glenhope yearbooks will be sold online until the end of January. If you order your yearbook online, you have the option to have your child's name embossed on the yearbook for an additional $5! To order your yearbook online, please go to:
http://bit.do/GlenhopeYearbook
We will also do a standard (non-digital) yearbook order (as we've done in the past) where you can send in checks/cash. That will be later this fall.
Change in Lunch with Principal
As a result of these conversations, the decision for 3rd - 5th grade was for each grade to target a specific character trait (responsibility, kindness, courage, etc.) and then ask students to select 5 students in each room that had best exemplified that character trait during the month.
The teachers believe that this change in LWP will be very effective for recognizing students for outstanding character. We will, of course, continue to evaluate this change over the next few months.
Birthday treats
A unique opportunity for students....
Mrs. Ballard and her husband support an organization that rescues big cats (cheetahs, lions, etc.) and in the fall they open the facility to young people. Here is some information you might want to check out: http://carerescuetexas.com/care-news/cares-2016-fall-festival/
