Mrs. Mathe's Message
As a reminder, our fall carnival is coming up next weekend, Saturday, November 12th from 2:00-6:00 pm! Our PTO has worked tirelessly to prepare an amazing community event for all to enjoy! Keep on eye out on Powell's Facebook page as well as the PTO Facebook and Instagram for the most up to date information as well as some sneek peeks into what you will find at the carnival. We can't wait!
One last reminder: Tuesday, November 8th is Election Day. Students do not have school on Tuesday. Please consider taking time on Tuesday to take your children with you to vote. There is no better way to show the importance of practicing our civic duty than to model it for our kids.
Veteran's Day Program
In November we honor our country's veterans. This year, our 3rd grade students will honor those that have served or are currently serving our country during our Veteran's Day program. We are inviting all Powell Panthers and their veteran family members to attend this special event, as well as all 3rd grade parents. Due to limited seating in the gym, we will be streaming the program to all other grade levels in their classrooms.
There will be 2 ways you can honor a veteran in your life. This is open to ALL Powell Panthers.
- Next week, your child will be bringing home a note with a star on it. Write the veteran's name on the star, cut it out and return it to school by November 10. We will display these stars in the gym as a way to honor all our loved ones!
- And/or you may click here to submit a photo and information regarding your veteran. These will be displayed on the screen in the gym for all to see as a way of honoring those that have served our country.
We hope you are able to join us in celebrating these very special people!

Gifted and Talented Nominations
GT Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by parents and/or campus staff.
It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) scores have arrived before nominating their child as CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT October 18 & 19. 2nd grade parents will be contacted if their child will be nominated for further testing in the spring.
Referrals will be accepted October 3- December 16, 2022. You may request a referral packet from Mrs. Nixon at snixon@conroeisd.net

Powell Carnival FAQ
How much does each game or activity cost? 2-5 tickets, depending on the activity.
What activities will be at the carnival? This year we are proud to have a wide variety of activities, including: a turn to control the award-winning College Park HS robotics team's robots, hands-on experience with animals from The Learning Zoo, get balloon art made by Michael Crayton of Magical Balloons, air brush tattoos, a photo booth, inflatables, dunk tank, paint a rock for the playground's rock garden, carnival games, and more!
Can I use tickets for the food trucks? Nope!
Does buying food from the food trucks help Powell? Yes! A percentage of the proceeds made at the carnival will be donated to Powell.
Where should I park? Part of Powell's parking lot will be the location of food trucks and tables, so parking in the adjacent church parking lot would be great!
Can I get money back if I do not use all of my tickets? The punch cards/tickets are non-refundable so we have tried to come up with a lot of different ways to use the tickets! All proceeds from the carnival go directly back to the students in the form of fieldtrips, new music/art/PE equipment, technology purchases/repairs, Jingle Jam, classroom activities/seating/decorations, etc.
Do I need to be present to win items from the Silent Auction? No, you will be contacted by Molly Anders (Silent Auction Chair) to notify you that you're a winner, and to arrange delivery of your item(s).
Can I share the Silent Auction website with family and friends? Absolutely! The more visibility of our auction items, the more opportunity to raise funds for our students and teachers. Please feel free to share!
Can I bring a friend? Please do! Invite friends, family and neighbors, whether or not they have a Powell student, to come participate in the activities, or simply to eat at the food trucks.
Can my child(ren) play on the playground during the Carnival? Yes, but they must be supervised by a parent/guardian.
How do I know where to find certain activities? (link to map and list of activities)
What if it rains? The carnival will go on - rain or shine!
Will it be as crowded as last year? We still hope to have a wonderful turnout, but to create more space in hallways, we have moved some of the experiences into classrooms and moved the food truck seating outside to allow more space in the cafeteria for our 14 games, 9 interactions, 6 experiences.
The FAQ can be found linked on the Powell PTO webpage. Stay tuned for more information about the carnival, including a map of where attractions will be located!
