WELCOME TO THE START OF THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR!

Thanks for a great first day and start to our school year! Students arrived by bus and car. Arrival was seamless as students transitioned from breakfast to their classrooms. Our annual first day of school flag ceremony continued today with great success. We met and welcomed new students, new staff members, as well as our returning students and staff. We ended our week with a fire drill that went smoothly. It was a #BrunswickStrong Week!

Our school newsletter will be posted to our website as well as sent out through Find Out First Notification to your text or email preference. If you have not created for updated your Find Our First account, please see the directions below. A print copy of our bimonthly Newsletter will be sent home Sept. 13 & 27 and Oct. 11. Beginning with the October 25 Newsletter, the only print copies that will be sent home will be for those families that have submitted a request to opt in for the print version.

Sincerely -

Justin McConnaughey & Heather Putnam

PARCC REPORTS SENT HOME

Students who took the 2017 PARCC* assessments last spring (when they were in grades 3-5) brought home their scores last week on Friday, September 8.

The PARCC reports will allow parents to see their child's academic growth from one grade to the next and to monitor their child's progress toward college and career-readiness. FCPS has posted resources at www.fcps.org/PARCC where you will find more information about the PARCC score report and how the results will be used.

The reports provide a useful snapshot to identify where there is room for growth, to spot strengths and help the teacher tailor instruction to student needs. It is important to remember that each state assessment provides just one measure of your child's performance.

It is not the only indicator of student progress. As always, we welcome you to contact your child's school with questions or to engage in a conversation about your child's academic progress.
