Test Information:

  • The BASC- 2 was written by Cecil R. Reynolds, PhD & Randy W. Kamphaus, PhD
  • The first BASC Assessment was published by Pearson, Inc. in 1992, the B.A.S.C-2 was published in 2004
  • The BASC-2 is a Behavior and Emotional test that evaluates the behavior and self-perception of individuals aged 2-21 years
  • The BASC-2 is a multimethod assessment that uses the following to evaluate individuals; teacher (TRS) and parent rating scale (PRS), a self-report scale (SRP), a Structured Developmental History and a Student Observed System (SOS) form documenting classroom behavior.
  • The BASC-2 asesses emotional and behavioral difficulties in individuals and allows an extensive view of adaptive and maladaptive behavior

Requirements for Testing

  • Time Requirements: TRS approx. 10-15 min, PRS approx 10-20 min, SRP approx 20-30 min, SOS is an in class observation.
  • Qualifications of examiner: "Good rapport between the examiner and the respondent is crucial to motivate the respondent to be honest when completing the B.A.S.C-2"
  • Examiners must have completed a recognized graduate training program in psychology. A variety of professionally trained or certified staff including; psychometrists, educational diagnosticians, clinical social workers, and pediatricians may have received academic training and supervised experience to use the B.A.S.C-2
  • Materials required: the the TRS, PRS, & SRP forms,any other necessary forms and a pen or pencil


Methods of Scoring

  • The SRP can either be hand scored or computer scored. It is beneficial to hand score this section because the administrator can record the students answer directly on the test sheet.
  • The BASC-2 ASSIST Plus is a computer system that score and report the TRS, PRS, and SRP results
  • A computerized PDF form of the SOS is available to use when observing students in the classroom

Scoring of Self Report, Personality, TRS & PRS

  • Standard scores have a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10
  • T scores indicate the distance of scores from the norm-group mean.
  • The BASC-2 T scores are not normalized; they are linear transformations of raw scores
  • Items are completed by responding either never, sometimes, often, and almost always.
  • Never= 0, sometimes=1, often=2, almost always=3

Adaptive Scales
  • Very High- T- Score Range of 70 and above
  • High- T-Score Range of 60-69
  • Average- T-Score Range of 41-59
  • At-Risk- T-Score Range of 31-40
  • Clinically Significant- T-Score Range of 30 and below
Clinical Scales
  • Clinically Significant- T-Score Range of 70 and above
  • At-Risk- T-Score Range of 60-69
  • Average- T-Score Range of 41-59
  • Low- T-Score Range of 31-40
  • Very Low- T-Score Range of 30 and below
