Scene 2/Act 2 Nightmares: Ed Sheeran
In this scene Caesar’s wife, Calphurnia, wakes up in the middle of the night to a nightmare she has. In her nightmare she sees Caesar’s murder. Everybody in Rome is having nightmares about the Ides of March. In Act 1 of the play the Cobbler gives a warning to beware of the Ides of March, foreshadowing the bad things to come on the Ides of March. The one line in the song that really represents this Act is “I feel my nightmares watching me.” This line is very good because everybody in Rome is having these horrid nightmares plus it really connects with Calphurnia’s dream about Caesar’s murder as the conspirators are out planning the murder of Caesar. Another example from the play is Brutus seeing the ghost of Caesar in his tent the night before the battle foreshadowing that Antony and Octavius will avenge Caesar’s death and that Brutus and all of the conspirators will be killed. The lyrics really reflect the people’s dreams as all of them become true. The song reflects everybody in the play seeing their bloody death in their nightmares.
