Advent Challenges
Advent Challenge Week 1: Have your children do a couple of extra chores to earn some money. Then, take them shopping for hats, mittens and scarves. Bring your goodies to church and hang them on our Mitten Tree this Sunday, December 3rd, the 1st Sunday of Advent.
Advent Challenge Week 2: It's the Candy Cane Challenge! Give your children something to do while you shop - Have them cut out the tags (attached below) and tape them to candy canes. At your favorite store, have the kids pass out the candy canes to the employees and tell them "Merry Christmas!" Let us know on the OLCC,P Kids FB page which store you hit!
Advent Challenge Week 3: Let the people who you DON'T see but who serve you every week know how much you appreciate them! Make a card for your mail person and a poster for your garbage pickup people. These are underappreciated jobs and they could really use some Christmas cheer in the middle of their (chilly!) day. Take a picture of your poster and mailbox - we'd love to see how creative you are.
Advent Challenge Week 4: Sneak over to a neighbor’s house and draw a beautiful chalk message in their driveway. Wish them a Merry Christmas, draw a nativity – be creative! If the snow sticks, make a card or poster and put it where they will see it!
We also passed out a calendar with daily Advent readings and fun things to do. Hard copies are available from Diana Tyrrell at the Kids' World Desk.
Don't Forget!
- pray for your kids before church begins.
- welcome your kids and ask how they are - the more specific, the better!
- take attendance and check for birthday cards to sign.
- at the end of class, do the secret handshake and pass out the weekly God Time card.

Remember in Prayer . . .
- Afsoon Berenjian's daughter, Tara, has passed out a couple of times and was in the hospital last Sunday. Afsoon works in our nursery every week.
- Nick Mancuso, 3rd grader Olivia Harlow's grandfather had a massive stroke a few weeks ago. He was recently moved to a long-term care facility and is slowly improving.
- Koen Locklear, a 1st grader who occasionally attends OLCC,P Kids events, got buckle fractures on both wrists at the Bounce-N- Bowl event. He's had braces on both arms since then but will hopefully be getting them off this week.
Also remember to pray for all of your students, that each Sunday, they will hear and take to heart the Bottom Line that we are trying to teach them.
Time to schedule January
Remember that the SGLs have December 24th and 31st off to enjoy the holiday!
I will not be here on January 7th. Mike Tomkovicz will be our guest storyteller. Alex Payne will be our host and Kyla Christopher-Moody will be our Tech Support. Please sign up for January when you get a chance. If you need to coordinate with your group, email them directly to organize.
Peggy & Mike Simon will join the 4th/5th grade crew in January. Also, DiAnn Wolf let me know that she will no longer be one of our SGLs next year. We will miss her very much and I know that the kids will as well.
Put a Bow On It: JOY
When God created the world, He made it to be a place of peace and contentment. In the Magnificent Paradise, God provided fruit trees that were pleasing to the eye and good to eat. And He personally walked with His creation! But when sin entered the world, so did greed and jealousy. As circumstances changed and life presented more challenges, people found it harder and harder to be happy. However, even now in this broken world, God wants us to have joy. Even though we try to find joy through our stuff, or our vacations, or our relationships, joy isn’t dependent upon any of those things. Joy is about being content beyond our circumstances. We can have joy when we recognize that God’s plan is greater than our own. Joy is a response to our trust in God. Starting December 3rd, we'll take a look at God's plan as it came to Earth in the form of His Son, Jesus.
Please note: We will have group Sunday School on December 24th and December 31st will be an ALL-IN Family Service. Teachers have those weeks off.
Starting January 7th . . .
Work It Out: Commitment
So, we're starting out our year talking about contentment. It has a workout theme - we'll be talking about when you're committed to doing something, there are things that you practice to make good habits. Check out the video below for a quick preview. The Leader Overview is also attached.
