Student & Family Update 01/29/2023
Support and Communication
As I reflect on our week together, I am so proud of our conversations around inclusive practices and support for our students. It is so clear that we have a school community that cares about kids. I will always support our greater community in the work we have related to our annual action plan and understand that we will continue to push one another through conversation and feedback. Our staff are encouraged to reach out to families as part of this work.
Please make note that we do have an email system that allows staff to autogenerate email addresses based on student names. If you receive one in this format, administration is cc'd so that we can help support students as needed. There are times you may feel this is not necessary, but we truly are all here to share our feedback and offer support for student learning. Teachers engage with over 140 student each day and by working together with families, we will continue to make progress in all areas. Our goal is to build the confidence in students to be prepared for the future of their choice and appreciate the communication.
Thank you for the continued support throughout the year!

Girls Basketball *Tuesday*
Girls Basketball will begin on Tuesday, January 31. Practice will be 2:20-4pm afterschool at PSMS, unless otherwise determined by coach(es). Please make sure to have transportation plans for your athlete after practice. Athletes will need to have a comfortable pair of basketball shoes with a non-marking sole and a water bottle for practice. The game schedule is found here. This is a live document and will be updated as things may change. You can also visit ArbiterSports to find specific location information. IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS: Athletic Registration: An Athletic Registration Form must be completed either online or by hard copy prior to turning out for practice. This includes emergency contact information, insurance and the Athletic Code. Sports Physical: All athletes must have a current sports physical (good for 2yrs) turned into the office BEFORE turning out. ASB Card/Pay to Participate: Each participant must purchase an Associated Student Body card and Pay to Participate fee before the first contest. The ASB card is $20, Pay to Participate is $50 per sport ($100 maximum per year; Free/Reduced options for those who qualify). Transportation: In the event that we cannot get a bus to out-of district competitions (due to bus driver shortage), we will have district vans. However, seating is limited, so the Stanwood/Camano School District is allowing families to arrange transportation to and from competitions when this occurs. These families will agree to provide their own transportation to and from away competitions and understand that the district assumes no liability/responsibility for the athletes during the transportation times. The waiver will need to be signed and returned to your athletic director prior to your first out-of-district event. *Hard copies of the waiver can be picked up in the office or from your athlete's coach Parent Transportation Waiver for Middle School Sports

District Information
Get school updates via text
The school district is adding text messaging capability to our school communication system, which currently uses phone calls and emails. The system will be configured to send text messages to cell phone numbers whose recipients have agreed to receive them.
Many of you already received a text from 67587 earlier this week requesting you to opt-in to receive important informational text messages from your child’s school. You simply need to Reply Y to confirm (messaging and data rates may apply).
Alternatively, you can text “Y” to 67587 to opt-in to receive texts. In the future, if a recipient’s cellphone number is changed or a new number added to our information system database, the new number will automatically be sent an opt-In message.
*Reminder: NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR HIGHLY CAPABLE PROGRAM
