An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.
Central idea: Discovery of electricity allows us to be creative.

What Are We Learning This Unit?
Math
- I can use the four operations to solve word problems involving simple fractions.
- I can recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
- I can compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators.
- I can add and subtract fractions.
- I can decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way.
- I can add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators.
- I can solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions .
- I can understand a fraction a/b as a multiple of 1/b.
English Language Arts
- I can refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

Arabic
Fareeq an-Nimr al-Aswad:
Student will be exploring the human lifecycle. Students will learn to use simple past, present, and future tense. Students will learn vocabulary related to different stages of the human lifecycle such as baby, toddler, adolescent, adult, and old. Students will also learn to use vocabulary related to occupations, learn to conjugate the verbs to be born, to live, to grow up, to age, to become, and learn to use connectors such as while, when, and then. Lastly, student will also learn to use incomplete verbs ( (كان واخواتها in the past, and future tense.
ACTFL Standards:
- Interpersonal communication: I can answer questions about what I am doing and what I did.
- Presentational Speaking: I can present information about my history and future.
- Presentational Writing: 1) I can write about something I have learned. 2) I can write out a draft of a presentation that I plan to present orally.
Fareeq an-Nujoom
Students will continue to read sections from Diary of a Wimpy Kid in Arabic and choose three different segments from the book to change and give reasoning for their selection. Students will also create a presentation about the changes.
ACTFL Standards:
- Interpretive Reading: I can understand the main and supporting ideas presented in a book.
- Presentational Writing: 1) I can write a simple summary about something I have read. 2) I can write a simple summary about an assignment or task that I have been asked to do.
- Presentational Speaking: 1) I can share and justify my opinion on what I read. 2) I can present and discuss information I understood from the book.
Science
- I can make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents.
- I can apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.

Fareeq an-Nimr al-Aswad
- Read and memorize Surat Al-Mutaffifiin with fluency and Tajweed.
- Know the general meaning of Surat Al-Mutaffifin.
- Read Surat Al-Kahf with fluency and Tajweed.
- Learn the Research skills in the Qur’an, how to search in the qura’n about words or topics by using the reliable resources.
- Review from Surat Al-Inshiqaq to Surat An-Nas.
Fareeq An-Nujoom
- Memorize Surat An-Naba with fluently and Tajweed.
- Review Juza Amma with fluently and Tajweed.
- Know the general meaning of Surat An-Nabaa.
- Read Surat Al-Kahf with fluency and Tajweed.
- Learn the research skills in Qur’an, how to search in the Qur’an about words or topics by using the reliable resources.
Islamic Studies
The Fourth-grade Islamic studies class will begin an investigation into the Islam and Science.
- They will compare similarities and differences.
- They will research and explore the Quran and Hadith for science and information about how the world works around them.
Topics of Study:
- Nature of Quran vs the Nature of Religion
- Quran/Hadith and Biology
- Quran/Hadith and Chemistry
- Quran and the Honey Bee.
Art
Art experiences:
- Students will discover connections between Art and Electricity.
- Creating Cut-out designs using X-acto knife.
- Stenciling Art.
- Creating geometric Islamic design light fixture.
