East Vincent Elementary School

GREETINGS FROM MS. SEELEY

While the week was short, EV students and staff continued to celebrate Black History Month with the theme “Black History and the Arts.” Coordinated by an eight-member faculty committee, the Black History Month activities and learning opportunities highlight African-American musicians, actors, filmmakers, writers, poets, dancers, and activists who make/made an impact on American culture and United States history.

On Tuesday, Born Into the Arts Dance Company located in Allentown, Pennsylvania performed two assemblies and provided dance workshops for students and staff at East Vincent Elementary School. Students learned to listen to the sounds of the music and perform combinations or freestyle. Many thanks to Mrs. Sarkar and to EV PTA for coordinating and sponsoring our Black History Month Assembly.

LOTS OF FUN AND LEARNING AT EV

SAFETY AT EV

If you have been a visitor to EV lately, you may have noticed our new sign-in AND sign-out clipboards. All visitors must sign-in AND sign-out as part of our updated safety procedures. All visitors should return their Raptor tags to the main office staff, too.

FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

While students enjoyed the day off last Friday, East Vincent teachers participated in a day of learning. With the acronym, Go CATS, teachers participated in activities related to

Cultural understanding and responsiveness

Assisting the escalated student with de-escalation techniques

Trauma-informed care in schools

Self-care for teachers

Teachers also had the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues and complete mandatory safety training.

WELCOME OUR NEW LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST, MRS. DUFFY!

Mrs. Marilyn Duffy joins EV as our new library media specialist. Meet Mrs. Duffy in next week's Weekly WOW.

FROM THE MAIN OFFICE

Remember to let us know about dismissal changes no later than 2:00 each day. Dismissal notes should be sent to eastvincentoffice@ojrsd.com and to your child's teacher. You may send a note to school or call the main office too. Thank you!

FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR

We tend to notice more students who demonstrate stress, anxiety, or escalated behaviors in schools nowadays. Miss Weller, our school counselor, uses a 10-point check-in resource that is helpful for some children, and it may be helpful at home too.
