Glenholme School Newsletter
Week 9, Term 3, Thursday 23rd September 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
It is wonderful to see all of the learning opportunities which are happening across the school.
This week Pukehangi Team have been fortunate to have had the team for the Museum in to work with some classes teaching them about Te Arawa toys and games. The hall has been a hive of activity with our tamariki trying out the games. The classes were booked in to visit the Museum programme this term and we are lucky that due to COVID restrictions the staff from the Museum have been able to come to us.
It has been pleasing to see that our teams who play hockey and miniball have had the opportunity to finish off the season. The hockey finals were last weekend and miniball has continued this week.
A reminder that we have Greats and Grans day scheduled for the first week of Term 4 on Friday 22nd October. This will go ahead if we are in Alert Level 1. Unfortunately if we are still in Level 2 at that time we will still be unable to have visitors in the school. This is an exciting day on our calendar so we will all have our fingers and toes crossed that it can go ahead.
Ngā mihi

Touch Rugby Term 4
The Term 4 touch rugby season starts up at the beginning of next term. Touch is an after school competition so please be aware that it is the parents/caregivers/whanau responsibility to get their child to and from the games. If possible we would like to keep the same teams we had in Term 1 while also allowing other students to join. The competition will run every week through to the end of Term 4 at the Westbrook Rugby Fields. Here is some important information from Touch Rotorua;
The grading tournament is on Saturday 16 October (second week of the holidays). We hope that all teams and coaches will be available that Saturday. We will let you know the time frames once we have this information.
Once the competition starts in Week 1 of Term 4, Year 5-8 teams will play on Tuesdays (starting 19th Oct), and Year 1-4 teams will play on Wednesdays (starting 20th Oct)
The competition will run for approximately 8 weeks
For the school to compete in this competition we require at least one coach per team. A teacher will manage the teams, but we need a parent/whanau member to coach (Rotorua Touch Assoc. will supply referees). No Coaches. No Teams! The fees have increased for term 4. The subsidised fee for Term 4 is $25 per child which includes the use of the sports uniform which must be returned clean and dry, at the end of the season.
Teachers in charge of touch are;
Mrs Kiel - Pukehangi Teams, Whaea Jodene - Tihiōtonga Teams and Whaea Kylie - Whakapoungakau Teams
COVID-19 Information for Parents and Whanau
For school-aged children
- We want everybody in New Zealand to be well, and they can help do that.
- Talk to your child about playing safe when they’re with their friends. Remind them to keep a safe distance in a way that they’re ‘not breathing’ on each other.
- Tell them that their teacher might have some extra rules and it’s important that they follow their teacher to keep everyone safe.
- Remind your child to always wash their hands before and after eating, playing outside, playing with others, after sporting activities, after playing on hard surfaces including outdoor play areas.
- Explain to your child that they should not share their lunch or any other food and drink.
- Let your child know that they will see more cleaning of their school and their classroom.
- Let them know that some children and adults may wear a face covering in school and there will be some who are not. Explain to them that it’s a personal decision and it’s important that we respect their choice.
Play it safe
- Children should be going to their early learning service or school.
- If your child is sick, they should stay at home. Children who arrive at school or an early learning service sick will be sent home.
- If your child is awaiting a COVID-19 test result or is in isolation, they should stay at home.
- Remind them that COVID-19 is still out there so it’s important that they play it safe and follow the rules.
- Let them know that some things will be different. Their early learning service or school will have some extra measures in place.
- Talk to your early learning service or school if you have any questions.
