From the Supt.
Dear Panther Families~

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate your children this fall. We are almost halfway through this school year, and we are so grateful for your support and partnership! It seems like the perfect time to take a break, appreciate all that this year has taught us, and relax for a few days.

We wish your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing you in 2021!

Be well~

Covid-19 Reporting Form

In an effort to better respond to families and streamline the reporting of COVID-19 cases, the Knoxville Community School District has created a new Google form for parents to use. We ask that parents or guardians complete this form if their child has tested positive or has been exposed to a positive case.

You may access the form at this link:

In addition to completing this form, we ask parents/guardians to contact their students’ coaches or sponsors if they are involved in 7th- through 12th-grade extracurricular activities.

Finally, please note that anyone who has been exposed to COVID-19, but has not developed any symptoms, may return to school after Day 10 of their quarantine. These students will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities until after Day 14, but they can come back to school and attend activities—they just cannot participate until after Day 14.

We appreciate your support as we work to serve the needs of our students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friendly (Non-Covid) Reminders From the Nurse:

9th grade students: a dental exam is required for 9th grade. Please: turn in a dental form for your 9th grader by January 15, 2021 if he/she has had an exam and you have not turned in a form; call your dentist and ask them to fax the completed form to school. An exam within the past year will work. If your child hasn't had an exam for awhile, now is the time to make an appointment. Thanks!

3rd grade students: a vision exam is required. Please turn in a vision exam form for your 3rd grader by January 15, 2021 if he/she has had an exam and you have not turned in a form. Call your eye doctor and ask them to fax the completed form to school. An exam within the past year will work. If your 3rd grader has not had an eye exam, now is the time to make an appointment. Thanks!

Kindergarten: An eye exam and a dental exam are required for Kindergarten. If you have not turned in the forms, please do so. Call your dentist and/or eye doctor to have them fax the forms to school. If your child hasn't been to the dentist or eye doctor, please make the appointments now. Thanks!

The 1st graders have been busy the last two weeks learning about 3D shapes, comparing Gingerbread Man stories, and writing our own gingerbread stories. Their hard work paid off when they got to make and decorate their own gingerbread house!
Second graders took a “socially distanced” trip around the world, learning about different cultures and customs from Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Mexico and Great Britain. They enjoyed caroling, learning Spanish, making reindeer food, and creating poinsettias, gingerbread people, and wooden shoes.
2nd grades use their engineering and design skills to make an "elf trap"!

3rd grade Ag in the Classroom

Third graders at Northstar were part of Ag in the classroom with Karen Adams. She represents the Farm Bureau. Karen had a great lesson she was able to zoom with us about how many jobs are a result of agriculture. She also helped the kids understand how all the ingredients in a cheeseburger move from the farm to our tables. We appreciate our community partners so much.

7th Grade Happenings

The 7th graders have had a great time learning about themes in Language Arts class. To end the unit, the students have been reading "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. We have been talking about how authors have a message they want the readers to learn. The students have been enjoying reading about Scrooge and seeing the lessons he is learning and how these lessons are related to the theme. The play ties in wonderfully with the season and unit standards. The final day of school before winter break and the new year the 7th grade students get to have a fun connection with "A Christmas Carol" and do an escape room! We wish everyone health and a restful break!

News from the Transportation Department

As winter approaches I would like to remind parents and students to be aware of slick spots when approaching, loading and unloading the bus. Take small steps and don’t run to the bus.

I am going to share the link for Hard Surface pickup stops and times if needed this winter. This can also be found on the District website under Transportation.

  1. Wait quietly for the bus, stay a safe distance from the road.

  2. Keep out of the Danger Zone, which is 10 feet all around the bus.

  3. Stay in your seat.

  4. Don’t put anything out the window.

  5. Keep your school bag and other belongings out of the aisle.

  6. Keep your mask on at all times.

  7. No food or drink on the bus.

  8. Respect the driver and other bus riders.

  9. Wait your turn to get on or off the bus.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the KCSD Transportation Department.
