Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!
Dear GPS Global Academy students and parents,
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year, which officially begins on July 1, 2022!
Our staff is excited to begin a new year and are thankful that you have chosen GPS Global Academy to meet your child’s educational needs. We will be returning with a full staff of teachers who are highly trained and looking forward to meeting and working with you.
As you will read in this newsletter, there are a few required items that need to completed as we start the year. One I’m particularly excited about is our 45-minute Onboarding Course which will provide great information to your student – even if they have been with Global Academy for a long time. This is something that we will be updating each year, so that all students have the most current knowledge about our school and how it affects their learning.
As we move forward, we will share additional information with you about additional opportunities we will be able to offer, including in-person support, student activities, an official picture day (August 17!) and more. It’s going to be an exciting year at Global.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our staff at GAOnline@gilbertschools.net or (480) 507-1476 if we can assist you with anything this year. As our counselors return to work in mid-July you’ll hear from them as well.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, whether you are currently working in classes or recharging your batteries (haha) until we begin again-- we can’t wait to get started on the new year.
Sincerely,
Mary Longnion
Principal, GPS Global Academy
Gilbert Public Schools Technology Outage
Our district technology department will be performing a major update to its systems. On July 4 and July 5 you will not be able to access RapidIdentity or Buzz due to this update. Please plan accordingly and enjoy your day away from the computer!

Required Tasks for All Students
Online Learning Agreement
All full-time online students are required to complete the Online Learning Agreement at the start of each year. This agreement details the rules and regulations around GPS Global Academy and will ask you how many classes you plan to complete this year – please note that we’re only asking for an estimate; you may change your mind as the year progresses. The deadline for completing this agreement is July 30, 2022. Students who do not have a completed agreement will not be able to continue their enrollment with Global Academy.
Your unique link to the agreement will come in a separate email later this afternoon!
Online Learning Orientation
Required prior to receiving new classes - Our staff has developed a 45-minute GGA Orientation course that will introduce you to the basics of online learning and teach you skills that will make you successful in your online learning journey. All full-time online students, both continuing from last year and completely new, are required to complete this online orientation prior to receiving new classes. Students may work in their in-progress classes while they work on the GGA Orientation course but will not receive new classes until this is finished. Once students finish the 2022-2023 Orientation class, they will not need to do so again for the rest of the school year.
Updated Final Exam Procedure
All students are required to take their final exams in a proctored environment; we will no longer allow parents to proctor students' exams. Students who meet very specific criteria will be allowed to take their exam via Webex with a member of our staff.
Course Updates
Course Length will now be set to 18 weeks
All courses have been extended to their 18-week maximum. When you enroll into new courses going forward, you will be given the 18-weeks up front. We hope this will add clarity to you regarding when your course will actually end.
Students will learn how to customize their target due dates in order to finish sooner than 18 weeks during their GGA Orientation class described above.
Changes to Math course numbers
During the first semester of the 2021-22 school year, the governing board approved the change in course numbers for our math courses. Previously, our district’s math courses have been given a different number for each semester (example: MA200 - Algebra I, semester 1 and MA201 - Algebra I, semester 2). If you’re taking a math course, you’ll notice a change to your course’s title indicating the new numbering scheme (example: MA211A - Algebra I, semester 1 and MA211B - Algebra I, semester 2). Your progress will not be affected.
FREE 24/7 tutoring available to students!
As an online student, the first person to ask for help in understanding an assignment is your teacher. If needed, there is a free service called NetTutor which connects students to a live tutor to receive help. Click the following link to learn how to access free online tutoring and to learn more about this program (click here!).
