Timby Squad Penny Drive

Benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Cancer Society

The fifth grade Timby Squad is facilitating a coin drive for “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Cancer Society.” Families are invited to donate any spare change during the weeks of November 13th through November 17th. Last year Washington raised over $900. All students will be given individual collection boxes to collect any spare change. Each day the Timby Squad members will visit the classrooms to collect any returned collection boxes. The Washington donation will be made in honor of Colleen Koeble Johnson, daughter of Mrs. Donna Koeble (4th Grade Teacher) who has been fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since 2016. Colleen is a former Washington Timberwolf.

Update: Colleen was given the great news on November 8th that she is in remission. The money we raise will fund research that helps find cures for cancer!

Thank you for your support.

Go Orange Food Drive

Beginning this Monday, November 13th and running through Friday, November 17th Sodexo is once again challenging the ten elementary schools to surpass our previous year’s food donations for Tosa Cares Food Pantry. During year one we donated 1,177 pounds, during year two we donated 1,892 pounds, during year three we donated 1,188 pounds and last year we donated 821 pounds. That is a little over 2 ½ tons of food! We would love to hit our goal of 1 TON this year! We would also like to encourage all students and staff to wear orange on Friday, November 17th. All children and staff that bring in non-perishable food item and/or wear orange will receive an “I Am Helping to Stamp out Hunger” commitment pledge card to sign and hang on the “GO ORANGE” wall in their school’s cafeteria.

“ The Smidgeons and the Glugs “ book for sale

“ The Smidgeons and the Glugs “ is an original fairy tale written by J E Raven, better known around Washington as “ Mr. R”. After nearly twenty years of teaching/coaching, Mr. R retired from teaching in January 2016 to care for his terminally ill partner and fiancé, Deborah.

Following her passing, Mr. R made the decision to try to follow through with something the two had talked about over the weeks of hospital stays, chemo treatments and just time spent together; No one, especially children, should have to face cancer without hope. Cures must be found, but cures take research and research costs money…a lot of money. From that thought the idea of writing a children’s book and donating profits to cancer research was born. A year and a half later the idea is a reality !

If you are interested in purchasing a copy of Mr. R's book, you can do so by clicking on the link: “ The Smidgeons and the Glugs “
