Mrs. Brittany Banister Honored with "This Bud's For YOU!" Award at Vienna-Finley Elementary School!
During a recent staff meeting, Ann Schaeffer, the previous recipient of the "This Bud's for You!" Award at Vienna-Finley, presented Brittany Banister with the award for the month of May.
Schaeffer, a first grade teacher at Vienna-Finley, stated the following in honor of Banister, a kindergarten teacher at Vienna-Finley:
"This “Bud’s for You” award is going to someone that started with our staff at a very difficult time. Many of you remember Bev Judge, who became sick and eventually lost her battle with cancer. It was during this stressful time that Brittany Banister came in and took over a class of sad and confused first graders. She was very understanding and caring and made a tough situation as comforting as possible. Brittany came back the next year as a Kindergarten teacher and has continued
to be an inspiration. She is dedicated to her work and wants the best for her students. The many extra hours that she puts in after school and at home shows her desire to see student success. Anyone who has worked with Kindergarten understands the unique challenges getting these little ones on the right track. I admire her tenacity. She is also a parent in our school and volunteers her time as a PTO officer, which
helps her from both perspectives when evaluating what students and teachers need. This makes her immensely valuable to our school. I consider Brittany a good friend and I look forward to seeing the great things she will do in the future!" Congratulations Mrs. Banister!

Fidgit Fascination!
Fidgets have been around for a long time. We've used stress balls, rubber pencil grips, and velcro at times and even other items to help relieve anxiety and improve focus when needed. The issue began a few weeks ago when students started bringing them to school and using them as toys. The large number of students bringing them has created a lot of distraction in the classrooms. Since toys are not allowed at schoo, VFES is going to follow the following rules for fidgets.
- Out of sight. Your peers should not be distracted by your use of a fidget.
- Focus on learning, not the fidget. You should not be looking at your fidget when you should be looking at the teacher or completing work.
- Your fidget is YOUR fidget. No one should possess your fidget but you.
Staff members will confiscate a fidget from any student violating one of the rules.
If you would like your child to use a fidgit, please make an appointment with Mrs. Barrett. We have many of these sensory tools at school for our students.
Mrs. Barrett will notify staff of all students with permission.
