Message from the Principal
🦖Hello Raptor Families!
Welcome to November! The fall weather has certainly arrived! Warmer clothing is necessary, and our Lost and Found is overflowing! If you are missing something, I bet we have it!
Progress Reports are almost complete and will be coming home on November 17. Over the next couple of weeks, homeroom teachers will be reaching out to arrange interviews with each family. It is important to have a voice, so please be sure to respond. As always, we encourage you to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher if you have any concerns. Email addresses can be found below.
As we continue to move into Term 1, supporting our students to become avid readers and confident mathematicians is our priority! If you would like resources to support this development at home, our teachers are happy to point you in the right direction. We are learning more about the science of reading as a school, and we have some great interactive activities that you could try at home.
Reminder: our yard is not open to students prior to 9:00 a.m., so please be sure that they are not arriving before this time.
☹️Parking is a safety concern! Please, please, please do not move pylons so that you can park, and do not park in front of pylons. This is for the safety of our students. The parking lot is closed to parents from 2:45-3:45. Our side streets allow parking and walking is great exercise. Please help us keep our students safe!
Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, November 6. Reminder below.
Book Fair is scheduled for November 27-December 1. Our family after school event will be Wednesday, November 29 from 3:45-6:00!
We continue to have many activities planned to connect our school to our families, community, and each other. Extra curricular activities are up and running for grades 4-6, please encourage your children of this age to listen carefully to the announcements for tryouts. Soccer, Rugby and Cross Country were very successful and next up is Three Ball (a version of volleyball that supports early development).
Research tells us that attendance matters! Please support us in having students arrive on time, and regularly when they are well, so that they can get the most out of their learning. Even being 10 minutes late everyday can add up to a lot of missed learning. Missing one day a week adds up quickly to weeks or even months of school missed. Student who attend on time and regularly, are more likely to succeed and develop a sense of belonging.
At the same time, illness spreads! Sending sick children to school causes more children and our staff to become ill. When staff are away, it impacts everyone. Please check the guidelines below for when to send your child to school or keep them home.
There is information below about attendance, hot lunches, Bell schedules, etc.; please have a look!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the office.

Regards,
Barb Bloom, Principal

School Council Update
Raffle baskets are happening again this year. Your child's class will choose a theme and then we will ask that you send in an item or two to help us fill the basket. Tickets will be sold the week of the Book Fair.
Our current Council Chair, Adam Brand is a great support along with each of our Council members! It takes a team to keep RFD full of fun, activity and meaningful learning.
Thank you to our Council!

Bell Schedules
We continue to follow the same bell schedule at RFD. Please do NOT send your child/ren to school prior to 9:00 unless they are in Compass Care.
We continue to ask that families remain outside of the school yard both before school and after school. We invite you to say farewell and hello to your students at the gate or the curb. This helps us to keep track of who belongs on our yard and who doesn't.
Our bell schedule is as follows:

9:15 Entry Bell
