Mrs. Bentley's Parent Update

June 12, 2015

Hello Parents

Your child has registered for Fundamentals of Web Design AB or Introduction to Business and Technology AB. I am excited about instructing your child this summer and will provide you with a parent update newsletter twice this month to ensure you are abreast of issues and opportunities available for your child. My contact information is indicated at the bottom of the newsletter. Do not hesitate to communicate with me if you have questions or concerns.

Reminder - Check Your Child's Grades

You can obtain information on your child's progress by accessing your parent account. If you have not created your parent account, click here for instructions.

During the summer, assignments are due daily. If you child does not submit his/her assignment by the due date, he/she will have an opportunity to submit the assignment late with an understanding that a late penalty will be applied. The image below provides information on the late policy for summer.

You will also receive an automated phone message each Thursday and Sunday morning via our SchoolCast system which will provide you with information on your child's grade percentage. Emails will be sent on Tuesdays.

Remediation Opportunity

If your child is enrolled in the 6 Week Group, details will be shared in a news item on Saturday, June 13, on how he/she can earn extra points towards one assignment submitted during the two weeks of the semester. Students in the 5 Week Group will receive details on Monday, June 22. You will also be able to view specific details regarding this opportunity on the course home page once you access your parent account. The purpose of this opportunity is to allow your child a chance to demonstrate that he/she has a better understanding of the course content that was not mastered previously. The deadline to submit the assignment will be 5:00 p.m., June 19, for the 6 Week Group and 5:00 p.m., June 26, for the 5 Week Group. This opportunity is optional but one that I would recommend for those students who desire to improve their grade percentage.

Brightspace Help Sessions

Help sessions were conducted during the first two weeks of class to provide students with assistance to learn how to navigate through their GaVS course. If your child is still struggling with navigating through his/her course, please encourage him/her to access the main GaVS Home Page to access links of the recorded sessions.
