CAREER CORNER WITH MARY
CAREER MAPPING - By: Mary Powers - LWTech Career Center Coordinator
Whether you're getting ready to graduate or just starting a degree or certificate program, a career map is a useful tool to help you plan. Career mapping shows you how to advance in your specific industry by gaining experience and/or getting an advanced degree so you can continue to increase your wages. Setting a goal helps you progress in your career and continue to learn.
Map Your Career provides career maps in healthcare, manufacturing, information technology, transportation, and more. For example, the manufacturing career map shows a person working as entry-level machine operator for $15-$26 per hour. They go to college and get an associate degree in CNC Machining ($19-$40 per hour) and then after a few years they advance on the job to Manufacturing & Production Manager ($44-$53 per hour) or a Quality Assurance Manager ($49-$60 per hour). The map shows you options you may not have considered. It helps to know where you want to go so you can intentionally make it happen!
STUDENT TESTIMONIAL
After taking advantage of the ERC services, a current Nursing student wrote:
"I just wanted to update you that I had interviews with Swedish and UW and got an offer from both facilities. I had some questions from the mock interview practice we did together, which was very helpful. I encourage other students to take advantage of the opportunity to prepare. Thank you again for your support Mary! Regards, Tara"
