2019-2020 Teacher of the Year
Mr. Feliz has been a "Spanish Teacher" for 18 years at Florence Township Memorial High School, and 12 years in New York City.
Mr. Feliz is one of those rare individuals who can reach all of his students and have them work to their full potential, no matter their ability or motivation. One student stated that “He never overworks us, but he simply pushes us to our maximum potential.” Another one says, “His classroom is like a breath of fresh air.” Several indicate that he not only leads them in the subject area but also engages them in “life skills.” In addition to these positives from his students, his colleagues also point out that “He is respectful of both students and staff and that he truly cares about all of his students.” Mr. Feliz is an individual who is looked up to by faculty, staff and students for his positive approach to all and his dedication to the success of all.
Educational Services Professional of the Year
.
Instructional Assistant--serving our students for 19 years in the Florence Township School District.
Mrs. Dmitruck plays a strong role in supporting our students. The teachers remark on how many of Kim’s students seek her out for her opinion on not only academic questions but many times on personal issues. In addition to providing in-class assistance, she routinely provides material items anonymously to those in need. Our students know that she truly cares about them for who they are. She is non-judgmental and gives them each her undivided attention as she assists them in working through classroom work or personal issues. She is known as an adult who truly cares about their success and well-being.

We want to see our students succeed, and we will be communicating to them that we want them to set their sights on earning a GPA of at least a 3.0 (or a “B” average) with no “D” or “F” grades in any course for each marking period of the school year. Please join us in challenging your child to be content with nothing less than his or her best effort!
Students who earned at least a 3.0 (with no “D’s” or “F’s”) were recognized at the end of the first marking period.

Debate Team
The Debate Team meets every Tuesday after school in D111. We have met September 24, October 1, 15, 22 and 29, November 5, 12 and 19, and December 3, 10 and 17.
The first varsity debates at Moorestown High School were December 11, where our varsity teams were observed by all debate team members and our negative varsity team won its first debate.
The following week on December 18 our varsity teams were undefeated and both of Florence’s negative JV teams competed for the first time, with one team winning. Not only did our varsity affirmative team win, but Anita Chacko was named the "Best Speaker." Our timer Ayisha Nahar timed our varsity affirmative team’s debate, and our student judge Georgia Moore judged a JV debate as well.
January Meeting Dates:
We will meet on January 7, when the varsity affirmative team will make a presentation on how to successfully present a plan, and January 14, when the varsity negative team will make a presentation on how to successfully attack a plan under the debate rules. We will meet as well on January 21 and January 28.
Our next competitions will be January 8, 15, 22 and 29. Affirmative teams are continuing to develop and refine their plans, and both affirmative and negative teams are continuing to research the subject matter. As the season progresses, the negative teams will have the opportunity to see a variety of affirmative plans and to research and further develop their means of attacking those various plans. Affirmative teams will continue to tweak their plans to address weaknesses that appear at the competitive debates.
Our "Teams" are as follows:
Varsity affirmative: Anita Chacko and Rajveer Kaur
Varsity negative: Thomas Ulisse and Leuna Sen
JV affirmative: Tanisha Khabe and Fabiha Usha
JV negative: Lana Duke and Zaria Harewood
JV negative: David Buddie and Eric Mattson
We would like to thank Eric’s mother Kim Mattson for bringing the team delicious snacks on the day we most recently competed.
We are thrilled to be sponsored by Hamilton Bagel & Grill thanks to the generosity of the owner and FTMHS alum Charlie LeVach and often receive their bagels to share at our meetings. Yummm!

Environmental Club
On December 19, Mr. Du Brul's Environmental Club made the best of a "freezing cold day."
Students got a chance to visit Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest and learn about the history of this old company town. Students were able to explore an "Old Grist Mill" and the grounds of the village. Students also got to see a forgotten town in Pasadena. Here there was once a thriving brick factory that can still be seen today after 100 years of disuse.
Students also had the opportunity to climb a fire town in Brendan Byrne State Forest.

Character Trait of the Month of January - Self-Discipline
"Character is what you do when you think no one else is looking."
The development of GOOD CHARACTER is not an isolated skill to be taught in one area of a child’s life. It is an effort of home, school, and community to instill in our young people the value of character. The development of good character touches our personal development for living, it impacts our success with academic development in learning, and good character is essential in the workforce to be successful in our careers.

Besides nicotine, e-cigarettes can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including:

The cold and flu season is upon us. The influenza season runs from October to May and peaks in January and February. Getting a flu shot may help cut down on the number of people that develop the flu. Having the shot may also make the disease less severe if contracted. Children are among the most vulnerable to the disease.
Complete information about the flu and how to contain and manage it may be found at www.flu.gov and at www.cdc.gov/flu. Influenza is a potentially serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently, but millions of people get the flu every year, hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized and thousands or tens of thousands of people die from flu-related causes every year.
An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against the flu. Vaccination has been shown to have many benefits including reducing the risk of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and even the risk of flu-related death in children. (CDC)
Please click the link to see where free flu clinics will be held. http://www.co.burlington.nj.us/ImageRepository/Document?documentId=10693
You are reminded to review the following suggestions and review them with your children as well:
1. Wash hands often with soap and water - #1 prevention method!!!
2. Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth;
3. Avoid close contact with those who are already sick;
4. Get plenty of sleep;
5. Eat healthy food and drink plenty of fluids;
6. Cover nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or the crook of your arm;
7. Stay home if sick for at least 24 hours after the fever has gone;
8. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL SICK!!!
Please DO NOT send medication to school with your child without a doctor’s note. This is per school policy, which can be found in the school handbook.
When you call your student out if he or she is absent, please include the symptoms your child is experiencing if they are sick. Please be specific. This information is valuable for the school nurse in tracking illnesses among the students.
Please do NOT send your child to school with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or a continuous cough. Students with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea MAY NOT return to school until they have gone 24 hours symptom-free without the use of medications. This is school policy and health department guidelines.
