DCES Panther News
April 12, 2019
Dear Panther Families,
Can you believe we are already half way through April? The school year has flown by!
Due to our snow day in February, our last day of school is now Thursday, May 23rd. Dismissal time will be at 11:00am. Lunch will not be served.
Before we head out to summer vacation, we have our state standardized testing coming up. The Spring Transition Assessment (formerly known as PARCC) is for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Testing begins the week of April 22nd and continues through May 10th. We will also have our End of Course Exams for Music (5th grade) and PE (4th grade) starting April 29th. This is a busy time of year, and can be a high stress time for our children taking these assessments. Here are some tips to help your child(ren):
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
- Encourage your child to do their best!
- Remain calm and positive and encourage a growth mindset.
Registration for the 2019-2020 school year is ongoing! See below for registration information.
We appreciate your support in the morning during drop off times. Thank you for adhering to parking rules, and ensuring our students are safe. We look forward to a new staff parking lot, and opening up more visitor parking spaces in the front parking lot.
Sincerely,
Jessica Chavez
Interim Principal

What is the 90 Day Plan?
As a school, we continue to make steady progress on our school goals which involve core instruction (English Language Arts and Math) and standards alignment to our curricula. This is called our 90 Day Plan. The 90 Day Plan is a state mandate for every school in New Mexico. It comprises of a Core Team which includes teachers from multiple grade levels and special education as well as our administrators.
Our two goals include:
- Core Instruction which is quality teaching that is student centered with clear daily objectives, essential questions for learning, and teacher driven lesson plans, driven by student data, that demonstrate students are achieving grade level expectations.
- Standards Alignment is ensuring our curricula and instruction are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
Part of this plan is to check on our progress every 30, 60, and 90 days and allows us to make adjustments to meet our goals. We are excited to end our 1st full year of implementation of the 90 Day Plan. (And if you are doing the math in your head, we have more than 90 days of school. We are in our 2nd round of the 90 Day Plan.) We look forward to sharing our successes with you!
