The Preschool House
September Newsletter
Welcome To School!
Hi everyone! It's fun to get in the swing of things, finally. I had a great time at the meet and greets getting to know all the families a little better. I hope your preschooler is starting to feel comfortable with the idea of school. It's a hard adjustment for some of them. Even though it's nothing really intense, it is still a change of routine and a new environment. They're learning how to navigate a new place, developing social skills and gaining new friends, and trying things maybe they haven't before. This is all tricky stuff, and even though it sometimes just looks like play to us, this is "work" to them. I try and mask it as much as possible to make it enthusiastic and fun, but my job as a teacher is to push them just a little more each time. That's how they grow, and watching them grow is the best part of what I do.
So, it's ok if they're tired sometimes or a little unsure here in the beginning. It's all part of the process of them developing confidence and learning that they can try new things and be successful doing things that made them nervous at first. That's the heart of what preschool is all about.

This is going to be fun! We'll meet at Babby Farms on Thursday, Sept 18th at 9:30am. This will be a combined field trip, and everyone is invited. Please plan on staying with your preschooler the entire time, which should be about 1.5 hours. Preschool will cover field trip costs for preschoolers and a parent, but if you're going to bring any additional kids or adults along (which is great!) let me know and plan on paying their admission. Adults are $5, kids 4-11 $4, and 3 and under are free. Click on the link below to see more about Babby Farms and where they are located.

Tuition and Payments
Well, I think I warned everyone this year would be one of trial and error :) My website host just recently upped their prices for online payments. It ends up being almost $8 for every transaction and rather than rebuilding my entire website or passing those fees on to you I'm going to go ahead and take down the online tuition payment option. Here at preschool I can take cash, checks made out to Malia Chaplin or I also have a card reader, so if you'd rather pay by card I can do that here at school. Thanks for being patient with me while I figure this all out!
Looking Ahead
Next month mark your calendars for Thursday, October 16th. We'll be taking a field trip to Linder Farms to pick pumpkins! Can't wait!
Heres A Peek Into Our Class These Last Few Weeks
Little Fingers, Big Work
Working our fine motor muscles is an important step to being good at handwriting. Stickers are a great way to help us do that.
Artist At Work
You know you can tell a lot about a preschooler developmentally just by looking at their drawings. This one here is rich in detail, and he has a big story to go with it. We've got one smart cookie on our hands.
More Than Just A Bracelet
Here's another way to build fine motor, and there's some literacy thrown in for good measure. Stringing beads builds finger muscles, stringing beads with letters on them helps us learn to recognize and utilize letters.
Cuttin' Away
Before cutting paper we cut a whole bunch of other things. Here it's clay. This helps us get comfortable with scissors and how to hold them.
The Learning Rolls On
So many things going on here. We're learning about acceleration, cause and effect, taking turns, placement language, and a host of other concepts, all by rolling cars town a table.
What I Like To See
Here's a little peek into what our busy classroom looks like. See how they're all engaged? That just melts my heart. If I would have turned 90 degrees though you would have seen the block area, which was a HUGE mess. That wouldn't melt your heart, it would give you nightmares.
