Kindergarten Class News
February 6-10, 2017
Thank you all for taking time out of your busy week to stop in for conferences on Tuesday night. It was great to visit with everyone!
Reading/Daily 5
Please take some time out of your long weekend to help your student log into their Connect Ed account (the slip of paper that was taped on the inside of their communication binders). I have assigned the book they have been reading with their guided reading groups as well as a few games to help them practice blending and spelling words. The topic/unit that the site says we are working on is incorrect and I am still working on figuring out how to change that, but am making progress! Thanks for your patience.
This week, we talked about sequence words and writing question sentences. The students and I worked together writing directions for different activities such as our morning routines and making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as we practiced using words such as first, next, then, and last. The students also learned how to read a question sentence as well as what kinds of words those sentences start with (such as can, how, when, and where).
Math
The Kindergarteners have worked really hard on learning all about addition this week! We reviewed how that when you see the + symbol and/or hear the words "in all" that it means you need to join the two groups together. The students practiced teaching their classmates how to solve different addition problems by walking them through each step and then reading their addition sentences out loud.
Science
This week's discussion revolved around reviewing different landforms and bodies of water as well as how we use the Earth's land (to grow food and build buildings such as our homes) and water (to drink, bathe in, wash our clothes and hands).
