Vision Services for Students Enrolled in DC Medicaid
Without proper detection and diagnosis, poor vision may impact a student’s behavior, attendance, and academic success. If a student is enrolled in DC Medicaid, vision services are available through the child’s primary care provider. Under DC Medicaid, annual eye examinations and most eyeglasses or contact lenses are completely covered. If referred by a primary care provider or school nurse, DC Medicaid will also cover examinations and vision services by specialists. Language services and transportation to and from appointments are available when scheduled in advance.
View a flier with more information for families.
Access to glasses and contact lenses is important for student success. School leaders are encouraged to work with school nurses to make this information available for students and families enrolled in DC Medicaid.
