FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
I hope this edition of the CHS Cougar News finds you enjoying the beautiful spring weather!
This week was a busy one - that is for sure - but the highlight by far was getting to see nearly all of our seniors decked out in their caps and gowns for our recent photo shoot. I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank the many staffers who were involved in planning this event, as well as Sunshine Photography for their hard work and dedication to ensuring that we could capture this amazing moment in our students' lives, even despite less than ideal circumstances. Seniors: please stay tuned for an email from Sunshine Photography in the coming weeks with a link to access your electronic photos.
This edition of ur CHS Cougar news is once again loaded with important information regarding the year's end. Be sure to read on for more information on enrichment and remediation opportunities, grading, materials drop off, and most excitingly a listing of the Class of 2020 Awards and Scholarships.
Lastly, as a reminder CHS will be closed on Monday, May 25th for Memorial Day, and there will be no meal distribution on this date. Normal meal distribution will resume on Wednesday, May 27th.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone,
Mrs. Franz

May 26 - June 9: Period of Enrichment & Remediation
As a reminder, no new lessons will be posted to Google Classroom after May 22nd. We will be designating Tuesday, May 26 through Tuesday, June 9th as a period of enrichment and remediation.
What will "Enrichment" look like? On Tuesday, May 26th a series of enrichment activities will be posted to each of the Class Advisory Google Classrooms, for grades 9-12. These activities range from choreographing your own dance to planning a trip to the various capitals of the US. All enrichment activities are completely optional, and are designed to get students learning beyond "the screen." Completed activities can be emailed to out Talented and Gifted Coordinator, Linda Lund at lilund@clintonwis.com. We will be sure to post any outstanding student products that come out of the enrichment activities in upcoming newsletters.
What will "Remediation" look like? Helping all students to achieve academic success is a top priority at Clinton High School. We understand that the abrupt change to virtual learning this semester has been difficult for families and for students. In order to better serve you, May 26 to June 9 will be used as a period of remediation for students in need of additional academic support, and no new virtual lessons will be posted during this time. Should your child still have a grade of F or I (Incomplete) by May 22nd, they will be paired with a "Learning Coach" for the remainder of the school year as an additional support. You will be formally notified if your student is a candidate for a learning coach on Tuesday, May 26th. Our goal will be to provide students with individualized support to help them prioritize their workload and arrange for extra help where needed so that they are successful in demonstrating the learning necessary to pass all of their Semester II classes. Students who are unsuccessful in passing their classes within the period of remediation will also have the opportunity to earn credit within summer school for designated core classes.

Should I take my class for Pass/No Pass or for a Letter Grade?
- You do not need to make any decisions right now.
- Letter grades will be averaged into your GPA, but grades of Pass/No Pass will not.
- You will receive credit for all classes you pass, whether you request a letter grade or just take a class for Pass/No Pass.
- Knowing our Grading Timeline might help: May 28th, all grades in Skyward will reflect what your letter grade will be should you decide to keep it. It's best to wait until then to make any decisions. You will still have a couple of days to fill out the necessary paperwork to "keep" any letter grades you want, as the pass/No Pass Opt-out form is not due until June 1 at noon. June 10, your teachers will "finalize" grades. Classes for which you have requested a letter grade will remain a letter grade. All other grades, for a D- or above, will be overridden with at grade of "Pass" (Covid-Satisfactory - CS), and grades of F will be overridden with a grade of "No Pass" (Covid-Unsatisfactory - CU).
Again - feel free to reach out to Mrs. Runkel for help in making your decision. We are happy to help talk you through the process. For detailed information on Grading During Covid-19 and to access the Pass/No Pass Opt-out Form, click on the links below:

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
AP Testing (round 1) is now completed! I did not hear of too many problems with uploading, however there were a few. Please fill out the surveys that Mrs. Runkel has been sending - one for each test that you took - so that I can see what, if any problems we may have had in order to give College Board feedback.
