Reminders and updates from Pike Lake Kindergarten
Greetings Pike Lake Kindergarten Families,
I am writing on behalf of the Pike Lake Kindergarten staff to once again welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. Our entire staff is excited to meet all of our incoming students. There is a growing sense of anticipation among our staff as we get closer to the start of the school year and I hope your child is getting excited as well.
Positive and proactive teacher/family meetings are important to us and we know it helps make for a successful Kindergarten year. If you have not already signed up for an Early Goal Setting Meeting with your child’s teacher, please go to our Sign-Up Genius page to get your meeting scheduled. Also, we are looking forward to hosting the Meet Your Teacher Open House next week on Wednesday, August 28th from 4-6:30. This Open House is a chance for families and children to say hello to our teachers and other staff, meet this year’s classmates, visit the classroom, and drop off school supplies.
To keep class sizes as low as possible, Pike Lake will be blending homeroom classrooms again this year. Our homerooms include students from two elementary home schools based on start times. By blending classrooms, we are able to maintain consistently low class sizes for all students. It also allows us to create more flexibility in the school schedule, so teaching teams can have common planning time to enhance the great work they are doing to serve our students. Last year, our blended classroom had a very positive experience. I realize there will be some logistical details to work through, but I am confident that the benefits significantly outweigh concerns.
I am confident this approach will help strengthen the Pike Lake community for our families and our staff.
Throughout the school year Pike Lake Kindergarten Center will communicate with families in a number of ways to keep families informed. One way to stay connected is to be sure you are receiving our newsletter. If you have not gotten the newsletter yet, please click here to submit your email address to our main office. Instead of just reading about the great things happening at Pike Lake, get involved in the action and volunteer. There are a number of ways to serve; through the newsletter and your child’s teacher, we want to be sure you know how you can help.
I look forward to meeting you and your soon-to-be-kindergartner very soon. If you have any questions, please call me at 651.621.7403.
All the best,
Todd Durand, Principal
