Benchmarks
We will be giving our 2nd quarter benchmarks next week. The purpose of the benchmark is to see where our students are academically so that we can address areas of improvement before state testing in May. Please encourage your child to take them seriously so that we can ensure that we remediate any areas that need to be improved. Below is the following schedule-
February 1-ELA
February 2- Math
February 3- 6th Grade Science
SchoolCNXT
Please see the info below regarding a great school/home connection tool. We would love for all of our parents to stay connected with the most up to date info as well as resources that United Way can provide. You can connect through Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. Directions are below.

STEAM Backpack Program
Every Berea Middle School student is invited to participate in the STEAM BACKPACK checkout program
With a Public Education Partner (PEP) Grant, we were able to purchase 40 STEAM Activities for students to checkout for a week and to take home and engage in a STEAM activity by themselves, with their family or friends. Most activities include a book to encourage students reading for enjoyment. The activities & book* engage a variety of science, technology, engineering, art or mathematics.
We are asking that they try the STEAM activity and then post to the Padlet their experience or a picture of what they did. And when they return the STEAM BACKPACK let us know how they rate the activity & book, if included.
We will have the parent information and check out form online. You can also reach out to Ms Olenja at tolenja@greenville.k12.sc.us.
GCS ARMES Program
It is once again almost time to begin nominating rising 3rd - 8th graders for the GCS ARMES (Art Reaching Middle and Elementary Students) program. These students are identified as Artistic Gifted and Talented and served through an after school program at the Fine Arts Center.
We are asking that you please share the following with your school community:
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT AREAS? Strings, Art, Dance, Creative Writing and Drama. Students may be nominated and audition for as many areas as they have interest but once accepted into the program, can only participate in one area per year. A separate nomination form for each discipline is required.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Rising 3rd – 8th graders for the 2021 - 2022 school year.
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK? Anyone can nominate a student, including teachers, parents, other adults, or self. Go to http://www.armesprogram.com and click on the link, “ARMES NOMINATION” and complete the online nomination.
Nominations will be open from February 1, 2021 through April 1, 2021. Information will be shared with your related arts teachers, guidance departments and through district social media.
Your help in getting nomination information out to your school community is extremely important and greatly appreciated.
