Dear Families,
Happy October! We are excited to say that the students are in the routine of school and are making academic and social gains every day! We have worked on our positive behavior and following the school expectations of "Be Responsible, Be respectful, and Be Safe." If you could use that same language at home, it will make a connection for the students between school and home.
Our bus schedule finally seems to be consistent; however, your help at home can make our procedures more fluid. For safety reasons, there should be NO eating on the bus.
Please ensure you are at the designated stop for morning and afternoon pick up. Buses cannot wait for families still in their homes or walking down the street. With over 20 students on each bus, even a 30 second delay per family can equate to students being 10 minutes late to school. We need to be mindful of this, especially as the weather changes. Adults are expected to wait with/for the children at their stop at all times to assist with getting on and off the bus. Children should be prepared to board the bus as soon as it arrives. Please have all photos and goodbyes done before the bus arrives.
We have a few reminders for our car riders as well. Drop off is between 8:05 and 8:20. If you arrive after 8:20, you must park and walk your child to door 1 and sign them in. If your child needs extra assistance getting out of the car, please park and walk them to door 7. If your child requires extra hugs and goodbyes, please park your car and walk them to door 7. We want to keep our car line moving with minimal delays. Remember car riders should be using car/booster seats and be buckled in prior to cars leaving school. School zones are cell phone free areas. Cell phone use can result in ticketing. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
The Oak Forest Fire Department will be here in October to discuss "Fire Safety." Each class will meet with the firemen to discuss ways to be safe and will see a fire truck. When the students are able to interact with our first responders, it gives them a sense of security in case of an emergency.
As the weather is beginning to change, please note that the students will be going outside on a daily basis, weather permitting. Please be sure your child has dressed appropriately, especially on these chilly mornings. Also, we ask that you keep an extra set of clothes in your student's backpack in case they get dirty or have an accident.
The staff at Ridge would like to thank our PTA and parents who sent money and food for our luncheon on the 4th. The food was delicious and much appreciated!
We are entering cold and flu season. If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or above orally, it is considered a fever. If your child has a fever, we ask that. you keep the home until he or she is fever free without medication for 24 hours. Please practice sneezing in your sleeve, "vampire style", and remind your little ones to wash their hands. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the nurse's office.

We will be visiting the Konow’s Farm in Homer Glen. The children will be able to explore different areas of the farm that will provide for a unique learning experience. Both A.M. and P.M. classes will go together. Children who are coming on the field trip with a chaperone/parent can come to school at 8:50 a.m. with their chaperone. Children without a chaperone/parent need to be at school between 8:05-8:20 a.m. Chaperones have already been chosen for the trip. We will be leaving Ridge School by 9:15 a.m. and returning approximately by 12:15 p.m. When returning, children will be brought into the school and dismissed from door #7 or #1 as usual – please wait by door #7 or #1 for dismissal. We will not be eating on this field trip. Please do not send any snacks with your child. Children need to dress appropriately for the weather and wear gym shoes. Please complete the section below if you would like to chaperone for this field trip (one parent/chaperone per child). Chaperones have already been chosen for the trip. No siblings. All children and parents attending must ride the bus to and from Konow’s. Students may have allergies to specific foods or drinks. Chaperones may not purchase or provide any items, including food or drink, for children. If your child is not attending, please let the school know at your earliest convenience.
