Covid Test Update- April 2022

Prior to break, your student received one COVID-19 At-Home Test through a collaboration between The Colonial School District and The Delaware Department of Public Health. These kits can be used at home by the parent/caregiver to test your child if they are sick, have been exposed to someone with a positive result, or have traveled out of state during Spring Break. This is a tool to use at home to help keep our children and staff safe and well.

You will find instructions in the box to guide you on how to properly perform the test. Please follow DDPH guidelines (linked here) for positive results.

In-School Covid Testing Program Information

In partnership with the Delaware Department of Health and Quidel, your school is offering COVID-19 testing. We recommend everyone pre-register through Primary Health’s platform: This link is specific for Colonial School District Parents students and staff. This registration will take no longer than 5 minutes and is only done one time!

Additional information about the testing program and process:

  • Testing is voluntary but highly recommended. It is free of cost to you so no insurance information is needed, or will you ever be asked to pay for these tests.
  • Testing will primarily be done through self-swabbing and monitored by medical staff on-site. School staff will not be doing the testing.
  • The test that is being used for this program is the Quidel QuickVue. For more information on the test, please read the fact sheet here: Quidel QuickVue Fact Sheet.
  • Results and communication will be shared electronically to the email and contact information used for registration. Results are primarily shared every 15-30 minutes.
  • If your child tests positive, the school will contact you directly.

Thank you for helping us stay safe and prevent outbreaks! For questions, please contact Nurse Smith (

School Photos

In order to get the word out about positive things that are going on at George Read Middle School, and the Colonial School District, we often spotlight classroom activities on our website, teacher websites, our Facebook Page, Instagram, and Twitter. Photos are what make activities come to life! We hope that you are open to photos of your child’s classroom or student activities being used to tell our story. In addition, district officials appreciate the opportunity to photograph, quote and videotape our students for use in the district/school newsletter, calendar, website, and other promotional or training/education materials. We will never use students’ full names with a photo unless it is for an award or other special recognition. As stated on the Colonial School District’s Student Information Card and registration form, if you do not wish to have your child’s photo used in this way, there is a District Form that you can request from the Principal. Once this is filled out and returned to the office, your child’s teachers will be notified. Also, if you are filling out this form, please alert your child that he/she will need to move from the area if any photos are being taken throughout the year.

The Colonial School District shall not discriminate in its employment practices or its educational programs and activities of students on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, domicile, marital status, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any legally protected characteristic.
