  • Eye, skin, and hair pigment is little to gone
  • Affects the hair, skin, and eyes

Symptoms

  • Little to no melanin
  • Easily sun-burnt
  • More easy to get skin cancer
  • Eye problems

Cause


  • Caused by a mutation in the gene tyrosinose
  • Located on chromosome 21
  • Most types are recessive
  • X-linked

Diagnosis

  • Electroretinogram test
  • Analysis of a fetal's tyrosinase gene

Treatment

  • Gene therapy can be done
  • Does not affect lifespan

Commonality

  • It is not more common in certain Races
  • 1 in 17,000
