News and Notes
- 5 Essentials survey is now available for families! The survey measures student, staff, and family perceptions regarding the school. Please go to https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/ to take the survey.
- The City of Peoria is moving ahead with the restriping of Forrest Hill Ave. which will change it from a four lane road down to a two lane road in front of the school with the right lanes becoming pedestrian lanes. As of the printing of this newsletter, there is no definitive timeline, but it is expected to be done relatively soon.
- With the changes coming to Forrest Hill, we are also reminding families to please remember our parking lot procedures for picking up and dropping off. If you are running late, please park in the parking lot and walk your student into the school.
- Starting on Friday November 1st, the classes with the highest attendance percentage through Tuesday November 26th will earn the chance to throw a pie at their favorite staff member! Students from those classes will be chosen based on the minutes they've logged in their reading logs. Don't forget to read every night at home and to be at school every day, on time, and ready to learn!
- The Peoria Public Schools Foundation is sponsoring a Little Free Pantry drive from November 1st through November 22nd and looking for Non-perishable food, household necessities, and personal hygiene products. Donation boxes are at the Peoria Public Schools Administration Building, Peoria High School, Richwoods High School, Manual Academy, and Junction City Shopping Center.
- While Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Wednesday November 13th, we are still waiting on our other pictures to come in! We will send them home as soon as we get them and, if necessary, reschedule Picture Retake Day.
- Grandparent's Day will be Monday November 18th from 9-11:00 a.m. in the gym. We will be serving breakfast. If you have not turned in your RSVP, please do so by Monday November 11th so we can plan accordingly.
- Have you heard of our amazing PTO? We would love for you to join! Please contact Michelle Hubble at maudesanderspto@gmail.com for more information.
- While we want all of our students to be at school, on time, and ready to learn, if they are sick with vomiting, fever, or some other contagious illness, please keep them home and call the school to report the absence. Also please be sure to remind students of good hygienic practices such as hand washing after restroom use and before eating and covering their faces when they sneeze. Thank you for your help in keeping all of us healthy!

Telling Our Story
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released our annual School Report Card on Oct. 30 at www.illinoisreportcard.com. The Report Card shows how well our school is progressing on a wide range of educational goals such as our overall students’ growth in the PARCC and IAR since 2015. This progress reflects the investments we have made in appropriate curriculum and materials, research-based interventions, professional development, highly qualified teachers, instructional coaches, interventionists, and our Reading Recovery program. Our teachers, administrators, and staff, in partnership with you, are continuing to focus on helping our students find success through best instructional practices, continuous review of school-wide data, addressing the social-emotional needs of all students, and continuing to refine our school-wide culture of continuous improvement and love of learning.
One component of the School Report Card is the summative designation – a descriptor of how well our school is meeting the needs of all students. This designation is based on eight indicators of academic success and school quality. The designations are Exemplary, Commendable, Underperforming and Lowest Performing. Our designation of Commendable means that our school has no underperforming student groups, a graduation rate greater than 67%, and whose performance is not in the top 10% of schools statewide.
We welcome this opportunity to dive into our data and talk about additional improvements and investments we can make to support every student in reaching their goals. Our school is strongest when we all work together, so we encourage you to give us your feedback. I invite you to complete the 5 Essentials Survey and join us at our Thankful for Reading Family Night on Wednesday November 20th, 2019 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to share your vision for Dr. Maude A. Sanders Primary School’s future. We at Peoria Public Schools hold high expectations for all students and believe every student can meet our expectations with the right supports. Thank you for your continued partnership to ensure every child at Dr. Maude A. Sanders Primary School is thriving.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Go Badgers!
Sincerely,
Dan Hiles
