Winter Park Band Notes
May 14, 2017
From Mr. Blackmer
Dear Band Families,
Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers in our Band family! I hope you had a very special day!
A huge thank you to everyone for making this year's Band Banquet a terrific evening! Special thanks to Dana Atkinson for her creative decorative ideas, Lee McBurney and Sunita Patil for organizing the incredible food, Nancy Stephens and Mary Beth Johnston for organizing the awards, Michelle Clemons for creating the senior souvenir pillows, and Dylan Wagg for spending many long hours putting together the terrific video!
On behalf of myself and Mr. Clemente, I'd like to thank all of our Band families for the very generous gift that was presented to us. We certainly weren't expecting it, but it is very appreciated!
Finally, I'd like to welcome all of our new Winter Park Band students and families to their first (of many!) newsletters!
All the Best,
Mr. Blackmer
Marching Band Mini-Camp
This coming weekend officially marks the start of the 2017 Sound of the Wildcats Marching Band with our 2-day mini-camp!
Day 1 is Saturday, May 20, 12 PM - 6 PM, and is for all new marchers (regardless of grade) and Band Leadership. There will be a late pizza lunch (no cost) served around 3 PM.
Day 2 is on Sunday, May 21, 2 PM - 8 PM, and will include the entire Marching Band (all new and returning members). There will be a pizza dinner (no cost) served around 5 PM.
- Students will need their marching instruments on both days. New marchers on mellophone (French horn), marching baritone (euphonium), and Sousaphone (tuba) will have their school-owned instruments distributed to them this weekend. Bring mouthpieces!
- We will be outside for some of each day, so dress appropriately! Light-colored shirts, shorts and athletic shoes (no sandals of any kind).
- Bring sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen!
- If you haven't purchased your 1 gallon water jug yet, this week would be a great week to do that! Make sure your name is on both the jug and the lid in permanent marker!
Marching Uniform Cleaning
Thank you to all the Band parents who stopped by this past Saturday to pick-up marching uniforms for cleaning. We still have more uniforms that need to be cleaned! You can help by washing 10 or more marching uniforms in your home machine. We will give you complete instructions and depending on the size of your washer, 10 uniforms can be washed in 3-4 loads. Volunteers will receive $5 credit to their student’s Band Account for every 10 uniforms washed to help offset the cost of water/spot cleaner. Please e-mail Michelle Clemons if you can help and she will tell you when you can pick them up and drop them off. The Band Room will be open again this weekend for the mini-camps. New Band parents: you are welcome to help out as well. You can earn some early credit to your child's Band account!
Concert Attire Turn-In
Please remember that school-owned concert tuxedos and dresses were due to be turned in by last Wednesday, May 10! Tuxedos and dresses are to be dry-cleaned and left in the plastic dry-cleaning bag with the student's name attached. Uniforms returned outside of the dry-cleaning bag will be returned to the student to do again.
