Invitation from Shawn Lewis-Lakin

I am writing to invite you to a planning meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Royal Oak Schools Board of Education Room, 800 DeVillen, Royal Oak, for the purpose of planning a community-wide recognition/celebration for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Monday, January 16, 2017.

The concept that has been discussed informally by persons in the Royal Oak Schools as well as members of the Royal Oak and Berkley Pastor's Association has been this:

  • Community Breakfast
  • Community Recognition/Celebration Remarks (brief)
  • Sending of Teams to Work Sites for a Day of Service

The agenda for our June 6, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. meeting is as follows:

  • Organize a planning committee,
  • Develop a timeline and planning tasks,
  • As needed, organize subcommittees
  • Identify leadership for the roles defined above.

The plan is to leave the meeting on June 9, 2016, with a planning framework in place that will allow a Community Celebration of the MLK Holiday in 2017 to occur.

We need your help!

  • Please attend the meeting on June 9, 2016, or have someone from your organization attend.

Text Tips

Everfi. Everfi is an education technology company focused on teaching, assessing and certifying students in critical thinking skills. Everfi offers digital courses, FREE OF CHARGE to schools through partnerships with the private sector, foundations and non-profits. Courses are available to students in grades 4-12. These courses were designed with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Teach for Understanding (TFU) frameworks. These courses also help fulfill the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) requirement for an online learning experience. Each lesson provides the teacher with course outlines, curriculum guides, real-time student score reports, supplemental/offline lesson plans, detailed standards alignment guides with state specific standards, answer keys, and discussion guides. I have attached a list of courses and a teacher start-up guide. All Royal Oak buildings should already be in their system.

NED assembly survey

We will get free resources if we take the survey below:

Greetings from The NED Show,

We thank you for recently hosting our assembly!

Each year, our development team relies on school feedback to help us understand what works in our program and what doesn't. The opinions of your staff are incredibly valuable to us as we strive to deliver an increasingly relevant character education program to schools.

If you are willing to send an all-staff email, please forward the below link and message.

Take the survey

If you complete the survey, you'll be able to download a fun NED classroom resource that we made just for you! We thank you for your time and feedback.

Sincerely,

Keller Students Taking Action

Big image

SkyDome Planetarium

Last Friday, our students will participate in the final assembly of the year funded by the PTA: the SkyDome Planetarium. Students will enter a portable, inflatable planetarium and be taken on a tour of the solar system. The navigator will guide students through the starts of the Northern Hemisphere exactly as they appear that day. They will learn how to identify every planet in our solar system in dramatic “flights” towards each world. They will be introduced to Greek mythological characters and see how these heroes of the past can be found in the stars.

Educator Effectiveness - Think about these items

The following link has all the Educator Effectiveness information in one great location. The most recent items you can review are located here:

I recommend tenured staff take a look at and start thinking about this item that is part of the year end summative: Professional Growth Goals form is completed, required as part of the summative conference (Section 380.1249, 2.a.iii).

Nontenured staff should be reviewing their growth goals and the status of each goal.

Please make an appointment if you have any questions or need a tutorial on Teachscape usage. Don't wait until the last minute.
