Principally Speaking
Happy April! We are down to our last nine weeks of school and want to finish strong. Please continue to be diligent regarding your child’s attendance. As you know, this is a busy quarter with lots of learning opportunities and special events for students. Therefore, it is imperative your child be here and engaged in learning. School starts at 8:25 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. If your child will be absent, please contact office personnel prior to 9:00 a.m. I am excited to see what this quarter holds for our students and anticipate additional growth as we continue monitoring their progress in the areas of reading and mathematics.
As we begin to plan for the next school year, a great deal of excitement begins to build about classroom assignments. Assigning classes is a collaborative staff effort and many factors are considered including: achievement level, behavior, special services, gender ratios, citizenship, and social-emotional needs. Due to these factors and the chance of teacher reassignments, we do not accept requests for specific teachers. We have an amazing staff made up of highly qualified teachers. As the principal, I observe teachers, monitor student learning, and note the interactions and environments of all classrooms. I know the instructional skills of every teacher and I could not, in all honesty, tell you who the very best teacher on the faculty is, because no one teacher is the best at everything. Finally, as new students are enrolled, we make adjustments to classroom assignments. For this reason, your child’s 2019-20 teacher assignment will be e-mailed to you at the end of the summer. I anticipate finalizing placements on or before August 6. The key ingredient in this process is trust. I appreciate the confidence you place in teachers and myself to make the best decision regarding your son or daughter’s educational placement. If you have any specific concerns, please contact me.
