PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear RC Families,
We hope that you all enjoyed Spring Break. It was fun to hear the children talk about visits with family and friends. As you begin to think about summer, I want to let you know that Rock Creek will not be hosting Camp Achieve this summer, due to construction at our school. The school district determines which projects will be worked on each summer and this summer is our turn. We know that Camp Achieve is something that many families have looked forward to in the past and we will keep that in mind when it's time to apply for the Beaverton Education Foundation grants for Summer 2023.
More news that we would like for you to know about~
The District will be hosting an in-person community-wide Bond Q&A at the Beaverton High School Cafeteria on Monday, April 18 from 7-8 p.m. On May 17, voters in the Beaverton School District will be asked to decide on a $723-million proposed bond. We want you to fully understand what's included in the proposed bond and why. Please watch this short video. Then head to our bond website to see what proposed projects are planned for our school.
Thank you for supporting our school,
Tiffany

NEWS FROM MICHELLE SCHIMPKE, SOCIAL WORKER
The Washington County Department of Health and Human Services facilitates quarterly groups for parents/caregivers and their children, ages 10-14. In these groups, parents/caregivers learn strategies that help effective parenting for young teens while the children develop positive ways to handle stress, anger, and peer pressure. Please see the attached fliers for more information about the groups and how to register.
Thank you!--Michelle Schimpke, School Social Worker

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Walking and Rolling is Good for the Earth!
April is the month we celebrate Earth Day and one way you can help our planet and combat climate change is to replace car trips with active ones! 2 miles of driving = 1.6 lbs of carbon emissions. Think about local car trips that your family takes often. Maybe it is a trip to the park or a friend’s house. Map your route and try walking or biking instead. We often think places are farther than they seem. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your location and be amazed at what your body can do for you!

HEARING SCREENING FOR 2ND GRADE STUDENTS
Hearing screening will be conducted by BSD Health Assistants for students in second grade only on Tuesday, April 12th. A second screening will be conducted a couple weeks later for those students who did not pass the initial screening. Parents will be notified of results after a second failed hearing screening.
Please notify your child’s teacher if you prefer that your child not participate in the hearing screening. Students who are absent during school screenings will be screened individually with parent verbal request and consent

BEAVERTON SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND 2022

4TH AND 5TH GRADE STUDENT SURVEY
Student Survey
Elementary school students will be surveyed this year through Canvas and Seesaw. The survey will be available in our District languages. The survey window is April 1-June 9.
Your student will take the survey during one of their Technology Specials Rotations.
Student Survey
- Each year the district surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
- The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
- Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.
- A copy of the survey is available from your child's school and is posted at
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/accountability/research-reports
- After reviewing the survey, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify our school testing coordinator- Marjorie_downing@beaverton.k12.or.us

IMPORTANT ABSENCE INFORMATION
Please read!
We are required to track all student absences and illness symptoms. When calling in your student's absence please leave detailed information ie. if your student is ill and has a fever or not, if they have a cough or not, vomiting, etc and the date symptoms started. Also, please contact us if students will be on vacation or have an appointment. If we do not have detailed information we are required to call parents. Our 24 hour attendance line is 503-356-2451 and our emails are jessica_vogel@beaverton.k12.or.us and Diana_carter@beaverton.k12.or.us. If sending an email please include both Jessica and Diana. Thank you so much for your cooperation!

CHANGE OF AFTER SCHOOL PLANS
Please be sure that your child knows what they are doing after school, before they leave in the morning. If there is a change to their normal dismissal plans, please send a note, email or ParentSquare message the teacher. If the teacher is not notified of the change by a parent, students will be sent home per their normal plan. We ask that phone calls with change of plans be limited to emergencies only. Urgent messages should not be left on teacher voice mails during the school day. We cannot guarantee that last minute messages will be delivered before the end of the day. Thanks for helping us limit classroom disruptions.

PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE
If you call the school and don't get an answer, please leave a message. We often have only one person in the office answering calls, the doorbell and escorting kids to and from class and may not always be able to answer right away. We are unable to answer the door or phone between 3:00 -3:10 pm. Your call is important to us and we will call back as soon as we can.
Thanks for your understanding!

CAR/WALKER ARRIVAL TIME 8:20 AM- CLASSROOM DOORS LOCK AT 8:30 AM
For the safety of our students, students that are parent drop off, walkers and bike riders are not to arrive before 8:20 am (8:15 am if eating breakfast). Bus riders arrive at 8:15 am because the school buses need to leave earlier to pick up middle school students. Classroom doors do not open until 8:20 am. We do not have space or the supervision for all students to safely line up outside the doors until 8:20 am.
Classroom doors shut and lock at 8:30 am. If your child is not in the classroom by 8:30 am, please walk them to the main front doors and ring the doorbell. Staff will escort them to class.

Very Important: Please label your students coats, hats, lunch boxes, water bottles etc with their names.
