Message from the Principal
Week of May 2, 2022
Message from the Principal
Dear Virginia Lake Families,
Happy May! A friendly reminder, there is no school this Thursday or Friday. Teachers will be engaging in professional development and planning for the remainder of the school year.
This week is teacher Appreciation week! The teachers are Virginia Lake are incredible! Let's show them how much we appreciate their hard work, dedication, and commitment to our students. Our PTA has organized a week of fun activities to spoil our staff. We ask that our students write or draw pictures for our staff and deliver their work from the heart on Wednesday.
Let’s make it a great week!
Sincerely,
Patti Van Winkle, Principal

Moving District 15 Forward on May 10th
Dear Virginia Lake Parents/Guardians,
As you may have seen in the email from the District before spring break, the next step of the Moving 15 Forward initiative includes sharing the specifics of the proposal at community information sessions and seeking feedback from stakeholders. Board President Lisa Scuzupaj and Superintendent Dr. Laurie Heinz, along with members of the District’s administrative team, will be bringing this plan to the Virginia Lake, Jane Addams and Lake Louise community on May 10th from 6 - 7:30 pm at Winston Campus in the cafeteria. In addition to the presentation at our school, meetings are scheduled at other schools in the District as well as throughout the broader community.
The presentations will provide an overview of the Moving 15 Forward plan with a particular focus on why this comprehensive plan provides all students enhanced and equitable educational opportunities and the chance to learn at near-neighborhood schools. The presentation will also include information specific to our school and any adjustments that may be made. There will be time for questions and answers during the meeting.
We hope that you are able to join us for the presentation. If you are not able to attend, you are welcome to attend any of the other school or community sessions. Our school presentation, once delivered, will be posted on our website. In addition, I will also share the presentation in my next newsletter.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

Registration for 22-23 School Year
Online student registration for the 2022-23 school year is now open. If you have not already started this process for your student(s), please visit our registration page to start this process.
Registration is the first step in getting ready for the up-coming school year. After you register your child online you need to:
Pay student fees. Our student fee webpage outlines the District’s student fee structure and the three ways fees can be paid.
If you have a student that is starting Kindergarten, entering fourth grade, or entering 7th grade, you are required to prove residency in District 15. Our residency webpage outlines the documents you will need to provide to prove residency.
All three steps of the enrollment process must be completed prior to the start of the school year. Students of families that, when required, do not prove residency, will not be able to attend class in a District 15 until the family’s residency is verified.
