We are off to an amazing start! How wonderful it was Wednesday welcoming our new families back to campus. Our students are settling into new classroom routines, learning new expectations, and making new connections. The past three days have been amazing!
A reminder that Back To School Night is happening next week on Thursday, August 25, 2022. All Back To School Night Presentations will be in person in your child’s classroom. Our schedule for Thursday is a follows:
5:00-5:45 pm - Preschool - 2nd Grade
5:50-6:35 pm - 3rd-5th Grade
Our wonderful PTA will be hosting a movie night for students wishing to attend during the Back To School Night Presentations. Please be prompt in dropping off and picking up your Deer Canyon students. Non-Deer Canyon siblings are not able to attend this event. The MPR doors will open at 4:45pm on Thursday, August 25th.
Please be on the lookout for more information coming soon regarding Spirit Days and Spirit Wear. Our PTA membership and Fuel Your Foundation drives are underway and going strong. We look forward to welcoming new and returning members to our PTA. As a reminder, all family members are eligible to join. Thank you in advance for supporting these two important organizations.
We hope you will join us for First Friday on September 2nd. Families may join us on campus at 8:55am through the ESS Gate.
We are looking forward to a great year! As always, please reach out to me with any questions or wonderings!

DC Foundation
Welcome back, Deer Canyon families! Your Deer Canyon Foundation is ready to serve your students and our teachers and staff!
What is the Foundation? The Deer Canyon Foundation is a group of committed parent volunteers in partnership with the school striving to provide resources and hands-on experiences that extend beyond the classroom and prepares our students to be tomorrow’s leaders and innovators.
Your generous donations help achieve school goals not funded by the state or district. That includes staff salaries for aides in combo classes, PE instructor, STEAM teacher, and Choir teacher, teacher and staff supply grants, Art Adventures program, and much more.
We understand it can feel like constant fundraising. As parent volunteers on Foundation, we feel that as parents too. And we also recognize the critical needs of the school beyond the specific needs of a classroom or teacher. We hope you join us this year in making sure your students and their teachers and staff have what they need to thrive.
Support your student’s education by:
1. Donate to the Fuel Your Foundation campaign
2. Search if your employer does matching, which often can be matched for donations all year
3. Select Deer Canyon Foundation as your Amazon Smile Charity
4. Share your voice at monthly Foundation meetings (listed on school calendar)
5. Participate in DC Dining (all year), Parents Night Auction (November), Read a Thon (January), and Deer Dash (April)
As parent volunteers, we are committed to being good stewards of resources and finding innovative ways to support Deer Canyon. Your ideas and feedback are always welcome at our monthly meetings, talking with a board member, or emailing deercanyonfoundation@gmail.com.
Join us at our first meeting Monday, September 12 at 6:00pmPT on Zoom. Don’t miss the results for the Fuel Your Foundation opportunity drawing!
Thank you to the parent volunteers serving as the 2022-2023 Foundation Board!

Volunteering at DC
What makes Deer Canyon such a special place are the teachers, staff, and family volunteers.
Volunteering comes in many forms: chaperoning a field trip, attending meetings, helping at class events, serving as a room parent or art docent, or being a chair or committee member for a student or family program. Sometimes it can be an hour a week or an hour a month. Identifying one hour to give back to your student’s school makes a difference. During Back to School Night, you'll learn even more ways to volunteer in your student's classroom and for campus wide efforts.
Volunteers are welcome on campus and in classrooms. New for 2022-2023 is volunteers will not need to turn in a verification of COVID Vaccine or Negative COVID test to the school office in order to volunteer. As always, if someone is not feeling well or has symptoms, they should remain at home.
The volunteer website is up to date with necessary requirements: https://www.powayusd.com/en-US/Community/Volunteer
It only takes 3 forms to complete and a negative TB test to become a volunteer on campus. Copies of necessary volunteer forms are in the front office. Volunteer paperwork can be submitted to Michelle Boeckman (mboeckman@powayusd.com).
Learn more here: https://www.powayusd.com/en-US/Community/Volunteer.
