Hello, Families!
It was a wonderful week in second grade! Please remember there is a half-day of school on Thursday and no school Friday due to parent-teacher conferences. There is no school the following Monday due to Presidents' Day.
We had a busy week of learning! I am so excited to share your child's progress with you during our parent-teacher conference next week.
As always (and I can't overstate this enough), PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress, or about anything school related in general. My hope is you'll always ask if there is anything you're wondering.
Please ask your child:
Math:
- Tell me what your math-facts group worked on this week! What is your goal?
- You learned how to add with and without regrouping. Show me how to write problems both vertically and horizontally!
- You are learning how to find missing numbers in an equation. Show me how to find the missing numbers to the following problems: ____ + 5 = 8 ; 6 + ____ = 13
Reading:
- What books are you currently reading?
- Tell me what you have learned about urban, suburban, and rural communities.
- How are post-it-notes useful to you while reading informational text?
- How can you figure out the meaning of a word you do not know?
- How can you make an inference? (You can show your child a primary source, such as a photograph, and ask him/her to make an inference based upon what he/she sees).
- Six Flags READ TO SUCCEED forms are due Tuesday, February 23rd.
Writing:
- You turned in an opinion writing piece to Mrs. LaCrosse today. What was your topic? Tell me about your interesting lead and your strong ending.
- What is the difference between a score of 2nd-grade and 3rd-grade leads and endings?
- Are you continuing to work on your Young Authors writing? (Due Feb. 20)
Other:
- What was the best part of your week?
- Is there anything you would like to be different next week? What can you do to make that happen?
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me. Have a lovely long weekend!
